Child marriage has abundant attestation in Islamic tradition and law.
Turkey’s directorate of religious affairs (Diyanet) said in January 2018 that under Islamic law, girls as young as nine can marry.
“Islam has no age barrier in marriage and Muslims have no apology for those who refuse to accept this” — Ishaq Akintola, professor of Islamic Eschatology and Director of Muslim Rights Concern, Nigeria
“There is no minimum marriage age for either men or women in Islamic law. The law in many countries permits girls to marry only from the age of 18. This is arbitrary legislation, not Islamic law.” — Dr. Abd Al-Hamid Al-‘Ubeidi, Iraqi expert on Islamic law
There is no minimum age for marriage and that girls can be married “even if they are in the cradle.” — Dr. Salih bin Fawzan, prominent cleric and member of Saudi Arabia’s highest religious council
“Islam does not forbid marriage of young children.” — Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology
These authorities say these things because hadiths that Muslims consider authentic record that Muhammad’s favorite wife, Aisha, was six when Muhammad wedded her and nine when he consummated the marriage:
“The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death)” (Bukhari 7.62.88).
Another tradition has Aisha herself recount the scene:
The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became all right, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, “Best wishes and Allah’s Blessing and a good luck.” Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah’s Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age. (Bukhari 5.58.234).
Muhammad was at this time fifty-four years old.
Marrying young girls was not all that unusual for its time, but because in Islam Muhammad is the supreme example of conduct (cf. Qur’an 33:21), he is considered exemplary in this unto today. And so in April 2011, the Bangladesh Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini declared that those trying to pass a law banning child marriage in that country were putting Muhammad in a bad light: “Banning child marriage will cause challenging the marriage of the holy prophet of Islam, [putting] the moral character of the prophet into controversy and challenge.” He added a threat: “Islam permits child marriage and it will not be tolerated if any ruler will ever try to touch this issue in the name of giving more rights to women.” The Mufti said that 200,000 jihadists were ready to sacrifice their lives for any law restricting child marriage.
Likewise the influential website Islamonline.com in December 2010 justified child marriage by invoking not only Muhammad’s example, but the Qur’an as well:
The Noble Qur’an has also mentioned the waiting period [i.e. for a divorced wife to remarry] for the wife who has not yet menstruated, saying: “And those who no longer expect menstruation among your women, if you doubt, then their period is three months, and [also for] those who have not menstruated” [Qur’an 65:4]. Since this is not negated later, we can take from this verse that it is permissible to have sexual intercourse with a prepubescent girl. The Qur’an is not like the books of jurisprudence which mention what the implications of things are, even if they are prohibited. It is true that the prophet entered into a marriage contract with A’isha when she was six years old, however he did not have sex with her until she was nine years old, according to al-Bukhari.
Other countries make Muhammad’s example the basis of their laws regarding the legal marriageable age for girls. Article 1041 of the Civil Code of the Islamic Republic of Iran states that girls can be engaged before the age of nine, and married at nine: “Marriage before puberty (nine full lunar years for girls) is prohibited. Marriage contracted before reaching puberty with the permission of the guardian is valid provided that the interests of the ward are duly observed.”
According to Amir Taheri in The Spirit of Allah: Khomeini and the Islamic Revolution (pp. 90-91), Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini himself married a ten-year-old girl when he was twenty-eight. Khomeini called marriage to a prepubescent girl “a divine blessing,” and advised the faithful to give their own daughters away accordingly: “Do your best to ensure that your daughters do not see their first blood in your house.” When he took power in Iran, he lowered the legal marriageable age of girls to nine, in accord with Muhammad’s example.
“Boko Haram install sharia law in Niger state, Fixes Marital Age For Girls At 12 Years,” Naija247news, October 5, 2021 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
Boko Haram insurgents are coercing residents of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State to marry off their daughters at the age of 12 years.
Residents of affected communities said the insurgents have ordered them not to recognise any constituted authority.
A resident of the area, and Co-Convener of Concerned Shiroro Youths, Bello Ibrahim, told newsmen that, “At a time, they were in Kawure, the village of former Senator Representing Niger East, David Umaru.
“But there was an operation to dislodge them by the joint military task force.
“Fortunately they were dispatched but after a while, since the military base is not stationed there, they reconvened.
“So now, they are not only in Kawure, but they have also extended their tentacles to Communities like Kuregbe, Awulo, and host of other Communities.
“In Awulo and Kuregbe Communities, they assembled the locals, both Muslims and Christians, and gave them marching orders that any girl that is 12 years old should be married off.
“There is no any form of law in the area, aside from Boko Haram’s… If locals have any feud, either Family issue or community problem, they report to them for resolution….

For those who ask how “we” can protect the rights of women and girls in the new, old Afghanistan, the answer is: not a damned thing.
Such rights in Islam are limited to that which is permitted by Islamic law.
Men are in charge of women in Islam and the Taliban are enforcing that.

This pedophilia is orthodox Islam. Is the Nigerian government going to do anything? They have Shari’ah in the northern states anyway, and a Fulani Muslim president, so I won’t be holding my breath.

Ah, gravenimage, if only most everyone in the West, including the current crop of Western elites in the media, the political realm, the entertainment industry, Big Tech, Big Business and academia, knew this.
Well, on second thought, considering the creeps who are in these six elite areas (including Joe Biden I might add), maybe such knowledge of Islam wouldn’t make much of a difference after all. Honestly not sure so twisted, never mind ignorant, have the Western elites become. The rank and file in the West still retain their common sense and moral intelligence but arguably the single weakest link in the West today is that the elites no longer do.

satan is so pleased.
The so-called “law” of islam is nothing short of demonic lawlessness.
The demonic demand of these sons of satan, who themselves refuse real “knowledge,” is to have these children made available for daily rape and attempt to put a *legal* spin on it.
Children cannot get “married.” It is unlawful, it is rape, it is evil filth from the son of satan the devil, the mass-murdering, raper of children, filthy evil sack of maggot dung, sex-mad, slave-trading thief, and false prophet, a rebel against the Most High God.
One day soon, these satan-worshipping maggots will learn just Who is to be Obeyed.
That Day is fast approaching and these little girls will all be the better for it.

Yes, married at 12 seems about right for primitive, barbaric Islam. Got to get Muslim women breeding more Muslims to help take over the world at an early age such as 12. And if Muslim girls aren’t married and under the thumb of some Muslim man and breeding at a young age, why they might get a bit of education and decide that islam is a load of crap. Islam is nothing but a throwback to primitive times. Every non-Muslim society worked out ages ago that 12 year old children are way too young to be married. Not this primitive load of crap, Islam, though. Islam will never crawl out of the sewer that it inhabits.

I can find nothing, tg, in your post with which I disagree.
My dear wife and I are now going out to dinner, it being around 5 P.M. on the East Coast here in America, and I will be getting a fine beer or two plus some BBQ ribs—it’s a “twofer,” i.e., enjoying haram drink and food while at the same time giving a symbolic middle finger to the entire Islamic world.
I’m sure you’ll understand. Indeed, I have no doubt you will understand this “twofer,” which I’m not sure is a term used in Australia but regularly used here in the good ole’ USA (and which Biden and his ilk are presently trying to destroy).
Take care, pal. Hope all is well with you and yours.
tim gallagher says
Thanks for the comment, Wellington. Just enjoying the normal pleasant things in life, whether alcohol or some prohibited food gives the middle finger to the Muslim brigade and pisses them off. I do often think, for example, when I see those mobs of Muslim lunatics in Pakistan calling for blood, how totally out of control Muslims would be if they did drink alcohol, so maybe they had better stay well clear of it. Maybe they are too insane to drink alcohol. I hope you and your wife have a a pleasant dinner. Here in Australia, we are still in lockdown, because of Covid, although, where I live, only for a few more days, so it has been only take away food for quite a long time. Being a bit of a hermit, I haven’t been too bothered by the lockdown, though I, like everyone here, am pretty sick of it by now, and spend my time trying to write some decent songs and also getting a crime novel I wrote a few years ago out and trying to improve it and maybe I’ll even try to get someone to publish it though I don’t like my chances. I think “twofer” might be used a bit, but, being 71 years old, I tend to not know what terms younger people use now. It isn’t a really common term out here. Everyone I know out here is doing OK. All the best to you and yours.

gravenimage, I remember I was telling you about my trying to write some OK songs a while back. It seems very hard to get your songs out to recording artists, that is, to those who don’t write their own songs, which most of them do. I won’t be putting any more songs out on youtube as I did well over a year ago now. It seems pointless to do so. If I ever do manage to get anyone to record any of my songs I will let you know and you can listen to them. The reason I got my novel out again was because there is actually a publisher down here in Australia (probably the same everywhere) that wants to receive people’s writings, so it seems that at least there is a pathway there. These days, i much prefer writing songs, but it does seem hard to find a pathway to getting them heard by recording artists. I’m thinking that there must be a lot of people with some nice songs they have written that never see the light of day. Being hopeless on technology doesn’t help. Also, In this lockdown, we can’t do much of anything out here. I hope you are going well with your visual art work.
gravenimage says
Good luck, Tim–you are talented. As for publishers, please be careful of ones who ask for you to pay for publication–these are “vanity publishers”, and you don’t need them. I’d be very interested in reading your story.

I’ve written several songs, gave copies to people that were ‘in the business,’ and then heard similar works on the radio from those people, but since they were not exactly the same, I could not prove my efforts.
It is very difficult to get work into the hands of the right people at the right time. I hope you can do something with your book. Personal effort requires putting a lot of oneself into it, and it can be very rewarding to have others appreciate it.
Especially if you also get some profit from your work.
If I recall correctly, Hemmingway had some rejection slips, as do most writers. There was one book, I can’t recall the name, that the writer submitted to nearly 30 publishers before he found an interest enough to publish…and then it was made into a movie after becoming a best seller. Much like the song that Pat Boone published for his daughter after many others had rejected it, and it became a hit song.
Wish I could recall the title. of the book. (I once was in the habit of buying books about writing. And I took a writing course, so there are a lot of anecdotes about writers and written work rumbling around in my memory.)
So, don’t be discouraged. Let us know how it comes out for you on this project.

Thanks for your comments, gravenimage and somehistory. I tried to reply to them last night but my comment couldn’t get through for some reason. gravenimage, thanks for the advice about shonky publishers. The only publisher that I have in mind is a very reputable publisher here in Australia, named Allen and Unwin. You can see online how they have a policy of accepting submissions. I think it might only be for Australian would be writers. I might give it a go. somehistory, it sounds as if you were ripped off by people with those songs of yours. It does seem to be difficult to have your songs heard by recording artists. I have a few people involved in music that I will ask about the right way to get songs heard by performers. I enjoy writing songs. They are short and sweet, so whether I ever get them recorded by performers or not isn’t going to worry me all that much.
somehistory says
Yes, TG, I was ‘ripped off,” but that’s okay. One of my songs that was “ripped,” is listed along with a bunch of others with the same or similar title on the internet. Because I sent it for patent before sharing it. Another was lost by the patent office. 🙁
One of my older brothers had a country music band. He tried singing some of my songs. He liked them, but he only made one record before he died, and none of my songs were on it.
Just writing things is pleasant for me, too. I have been published, but I’ve also had rejection slips. A couple of times, I could have had other books published with a big-name publishing house, but they wanted me to make changes that I didn’t want to make, so that was it for those two works
I have another novel that I keep meaning to send a query letter out about, but just never seem to get it done. It’s pins and needles waiting for replies. And, rejection…always a little sad, even though I’ve had some, it’s still not pleasant getting the rejection…”We’re sorry, …not meet our needs at present….hope your book…story…finds a good home…best of luck…”
But, it’s much like the little train that could. Never say can’t.
tim gallagher says
somehistory, you have achieved a lot. You are pretty industrious. I am fairly lazy or, maybe, just can’t get out of my own way. Sorry about your brother dying. That’s very bad news. On this novel that I have written. It was ages ago, maybe 6 years ago that I thought I’d have a go at writing a novel, as a lot of people do. So it has been hanging around a long time. I’m more interested in writing songs. I can sing fairly well, not great but fairly well, and I used to sing with a musician friend of mine ages ago. I mean 30 odd years ago. I was a hopeless musician. He was a good musician but couldn’t sing well. I never thought that I could write songs. I thought i could come up with OK lyrics, but never thought I could write the tunes. So only around 2 years ago, I was looking up the chords for some songs I liked and I saw how simple the chords were, and what chords go with what chords in many songs, and I thought, hey, I can probably write songs. I should have realised this a lot earlier, but I am very slow on the uptake sometimes. Anyway, for the past 2 years, I have really got into songwriting and enjoying it a lot. i hope you do have success with your books and your songs. I’m sure that I won’t be writing a novel or other type of book again. They are too long and take too much time. I enjoy trying to write songs a lot more, probably because they are so much shorter and just more fun to write from my point of view. Good luck with your endeavours.

About Sharia. It should be made known that the actual origin of Sharia is revealed in a Time –Life book with the title MESOPOTAMIA: THE MIGHTY KINGS copyright 1995. The point is this history book about the ancient pagan world of Mesopotamia informs the reader that “many Islamic laws resemble the Babylon and Assyrian forebears.” .page 150.
There is the above and other references imply that such pagan teachings were incorporated into the religion that Muhammad manufactured and then started.
Thus this further reveals that a lot of ancient paganism is part of the whole religion of Islam.
In other words, ancient paganism makes up much of Islam. Therefore Islam with its Sharia are a hoax .
Walter Sieruk says
The Islamic practice of an adult male Muslim having a marriage with a little girl who is only a child is clearly seen by most Westerners as a blatant action of child abuse of the vilest sort.
Nevertheless this heinous Islam tradition is accepted as “normal “in most of the Islamic world. Therefore, this may serve as an example of how the influence of Islam is able to warp the cogitation of the human mind to the extent that a person who is a Muslim might not be able to understand the obvious difference between right and wrong.
Such an awful thing as not having the discerning mental power to seethe clear difference is described in the Bible. For in Isaiah 5:20. “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil…” [N.K.J.V.]
Walter Sieruk says
A jihadwatch.org article explains it well where it reads Islamic tradition records that Muhammad consummated his marriage with (i.e., raped) Aisha when she was nine, and the resultant fact that child marriage is accepted in wide swaths of the Islamic world. Child marriage has abundant attestation in Islamic tradition and law.”
Male Muslim marriage of an adult man to a young girl who is really only a child of common in the world of Islam. One of the “reasons” for this female child abuse in Islam is because of the corrupt and perverse wickedness in the hearts of men. This is seen and described in the Bible with reads “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9. [N.K.J.V.]
Furthermore, another “reason” girl/child marriages occur with middle aged and even old men is because the founder and prophet of Islam Muhammad married a child. Muslims throughout history as well as in current times actually view Muhammad as a “perfect man” and a “great example for them to follow.”
This well might prove the old saying to be true .The saying is that “Evil is always looking for an excuse.”
It’s also wise to remember prophet Muhammad did likewise engaged in brutal, ruthless murderous warfare. As do Muslims today such as the jihadist Muslim of ISIS, al Qaeda, Hezbollah Hamas and so forth. Many that old saying, just sited above, also explains the excuse for Muslim terrorism in the world today.
Jesus Himself Taught “By their fruits you will know them.” Matthew 7:20. Which might explain the vile child “marriage” of Muhammad and his violent and deadly behavior .Likewise also explains the twenty- first century Muslims who in child marriages and blood and murderous violence of Islam .As they see the prophet Muhammad d as their example of who to follow.
With all this about the fruits of Islam along with fruits history reveals about the life of the prophet of Islam, Muhammad .It thus further appropriate to make known that it might be in keeping with teaching of Jesus that Muhammad could well have been an actual prophet . Nevertheless the very most important thing to understand is the Muhammad was not a prophet send by God. Instead Muhammad was a lying deceptive false prophet send by Satan to start a false religion to lead many people astray.
For Jesus taught “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” Matthew 7:15.
