“French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Thursday on France-Info radio. He urged African governments to fill the void and seize back ground taken by the extremists.”
That’s not likely to happen in any lasting manner, as the French government cannot even identify what exactly these “extremists” believe, and why. How, then, can it possibly formulate a effective strategy to combat them?
“France says it killed ISIS leader behind deaths of U.S. soldiers, hails big victory,” Associated Press, September 16, 2021:
PARIS — France killed the leader of the Islamic State group in the Greater Sahara, French officials said Thursday, calling him “enemy No. 1” in protracted anti-terrorism efforts in the region.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced the death of Adnan Abu Walid al-Sahrawi overnight.
According to Macron’s office, al-Sahrawi personally ordered the killing of six French aid workers and their Nigerien colleagues last year, and his group was behind a 2017 attack that killed U.S. and Niger military personnel.
He was killed in a strike by France’s Barkhane military operation “a few weeks ago,” but authorities waited to be sure of his identity before making the announcement, French Defense Minister Florence Parly told RFI radio Thursday.
She did not disclose details of the operation or where al-Sahrawi was killed, though ISIS is active along the border between Mali and Niger.
“He was at the origin of massacres and terror,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Thursday on France-Info radio. He urged African governments to fill the void and seize back ground taken by the extremists.
Rumors of the militant leader’s death had circulated for weeks in Mali, though authorities in the region had not confirmed it. It was not immediately possible to independently verify the claim or to know how the remains had been identified….

That’s great, but the ideology is still alive and well. This then will simply result in a game of whack-a-mole wherin another homicidal Brown Supremacist will rear their ugly head and pronounce themselves
fish bait.

Agreed.
Wellington says
As long as any Western nation continues to maintain the fiction that there is a difference between radical Islam and Islam or Islamism and Islam, so will the immensely destructive games extend into the indefinite future—entirely to the detriment of the West.
By now one knows this or should know this. No more excuses.
There is no good Islam. Start from this premise, an immensely defensible premise, and all the rest, the entire nine yards, will accurately fall into place. Don’t start from this premise and “all the rest” will be riddled with error, danger, erosion and destruction.

Wellington is correct. Western politicians are uninformed about the doctrine behind the threats and thus they make the wrong conclusions and the wrong diagnosis.
Islamism is INSIDE Islam as the flower is inside the bud and the oak tree is inside the seed, The DNA of Islam produces jihad and jihad produces an Islamic state and the Islamic state is a boa constrictor that crushes thought, freedom and human rights.
Muslims will not destroy the DNA of Islam, so we must convince them to leave Islam. There is no other way to stop jihad, but to stop Islam per se.

100% true.
It’s like a physician treating a person based upon an erroneous diagnosis.
Guaranteed failure…

Just as so much about society today is nonsense, non-science, .so is the “radical,” “moderate,” “extremists,” etc. used to identify mozlums, to identify what aspect of islam is being expressed, esp by terrorism…is it “moderate and angry,” or is it “radical and always in a rage,” or “peaceful as long as all people they can see or know about is just as mozlum as they”?
Extreme islam…is the very, the “extreme,” opposite of normal human behavior. And by “normal,” I mean those people who are willing and ready to allow others to make up their own minds, to have choices, to speak freely…even those things that may offend…to dress in what makes them comfortable, to swing the arm as long as the fist does not reach the other’s nose…
islam doesn’t allow any of that, so it is, by its very conflation, extremist.
Any devout moslum at any given moment, may act in the “extreme” of killing other people because that is what they are taught, what is drummed into their heads from infancy…or if a convert, from the moment they engage with a devout mozlum and desire to be the same.
One terrorist at a time. There are millions of them. One a day…millions of days. One a month….
And so many of Africa’s governments are run by mozlums. They have already seized the land.
satan is devoted to evil, and he has many converts.

Disagree: the labels used by political scientists and terrorism analysts are meaningful and help to classify the ‘brand’ of Islam and the political agenda.
Historiography is the discipline of the process of history. You do not seem to understand this process.
There are dozens of different sects in Islam, and some are quite different in their politics, structure and teachings. Please learn about them. Overgeneralizing is not useful.

mort, there is so much you don’t “Seem to understand.”
I am completely fed to the gills with your know-it-all, think you can correct anyone who has an opinion that differs from yous comments and telling me to “learn “something and I’m not being “useful”…..Now, do me a favor, because I’m never going to agree with you that I know nothing and you are an expert on every subject…and …. Buzz off., kid.

Mortimer, you do not say how the terms “radical”, “moderate”, “extremists”, and other terms are actually useful in describing what is all just orthodox Islam–in fact, Muslim clerics often emphasize that that these terms are useless, as *you yourself* have noted.
In fact, in your post above at Sep 20, 2021 at 6:37 pm you essentially say just this.
Then, sneering at Anti-Jihadist Somehistory is just uncalled for.

🙂 Thank you, g.
I made years of study on the subject of terrorism and one of my instructors was a Special Agent with the FBI, another was in the military in a position to have to deal with terrorism. It is not a subject about which I know nothing; GPA was 4.
mort just doesn’t want me to express an opinion unless every word agrees with what he is thinking at the moment he reads my comment. For the life of me, I don’t know why he bothers reading what I post unless it is just to pick a fight with me. Or, more likely, to tell me how very wrong I am and what I need to “learn” from him.
He may know a lot about islam but in my opinion, he doesn’t know everything on all of the subjects that might come up on this site. (Who could?)
He has the same rights to express himself as anyone, but it’s tiring to be lectured to by him,
So, thank you.

………….
This is good. But it’s like playing whack-a-mole–so many more Jihadists to take his place.

Well I truly thank them, this means a lot to me. Such fine young people we lost because of Biden’s stupidity. And what of the injured? I havnt heard a thing. Like
the rest of you, Im worried for them also.
That France had to do this for the US somehow adds insult to the injury.
They may be French, and Im no fan, but we owe them one for this, Bigly.
