Australia: Muslim targeted a cathedral and US embassy for jihad massacres, spoke of ‘conquering a small town’

A radicalised ISIS member had plans to target Sydney’s St Mary’s Cathedral and the American embassy for terror attacks and ‘to conquer’ a rural town like Orange, a court has been told.

Isaac El Matari also spoke of travelling to Afghanistan to fight on the frontline with the aim of supporting ISIS.

The 22-year-old, who was arrested in July 2019, faced a sentence hearing in the NSW Supreme Court on Tuesday.

He has pleaded guilty to doing an act in preparation and planning for a terrorist act in Australia on behalf of IS between July 2018 and September 2019.

He also admitted preparing to enter Afghanistan via Pakistan with the intention of engaging in hostile activities.

And he admitted being a member of IS between January and September 2019.

Prosecutor Sophie Callan SC said El Matari left Australia when he was 18 but was arrested in 2017 and incarcerated in Lebanon for seeking to join Islamic State in Syria.

But this did not deter him and after his return to Sydney in June 2018, the depth and extent of his radicalisation continued up until his arrest.

He was involved in a number of communications and other activities, including ‘rehearsing speeches and instructions’, which reflected planning to conduct attacks in Australia on behalf of IS.

Citing the agreed statement of facts, she said he discussed with others his plans such as insurgency in rural Australia, referring to the landscape and population.

He mentioned specific targets including the American embassy, St Mary’s Cathedral and referred to ‘conquering a small town or village’, naming Orange.

He also referred to ‘places of political significance, business, consulates, police stations, courts, the NSW library’.

They were places open to the public and ‘no security protecting them’ he was recorded as saying.

‘Going and taking and causing casualties in Holsworthy barracks in Campbelltown will make international news,’ he said….

His barrister Matt Johnstone…referred to his onerous conditions in jail and the effect of COVID-19 lockdowns on prisoners.

‘There is contrition and a desire to change,’ he said.

He also referred to El Matari suffering from PTSD as a result of being tortured in the notorious Roumieh prison in Lebanon….

Oh, well, then! Let the poor dear walk free.

    The fees for a barrister in Australia run up to $11k per day in court.
    Who is paying for this? Barristers are not available as public defenders, so who is trying to get this charming individual out of jail?

  8. On and on, all over the world, these planned Muslim terrorist attacks, and many successful Muslim terrorist attacks are carried out. Muslims need to be kept out of all our countries. I live in Australia and what struck me about this scumbag’s plan to conquer Orange was the sheer insanity of the plan. In the report up above, he says he was planning to “conquer a village”. Orange is a beautiful town, city actually, about two and half hours drive west of Sydney and, I would think, has a population of around 40,000 or so these days. I used to go there from time to time years ago and it was a big town or city back then. This evil would be Muslim terrorist must think he has powers like Superman if he thought he would conquer Orange. Regardless of that, I hope he spends the rest of his evil life in jail. Muslims cause endless trouble everywhere they go.

    • Yes, Isaac El Matari thinking he could conquer a town in Australia is nuts, Tim–especially one of this size that is not at all isolated. And does he really think that Australian authorities would allow this, in any case? Of course, this doesn’t mean that he couldn’t do a great deal of harm trying.

      • Well, that’s right, gravenimage, he could have managed to kill many people before he was wiped out by the police. He didn’t seem to have any followers to help him with his plan, so, as i said, he must have imagined that he is a Muslim superhero or something. When I heard about how he was planning to conquer Orange on the TV news out here about a week ago, I did think, did he even ever go out west and visit Orange, because his plan was about the most megalomaniacal plan ever. So sick and tired of these Muslim would be terrorists and terrorists. Keep Muslims out. Hopefully, this maggot spends the rest of his life in prison. It probably won’t happen though. Orange is a lovely city with the area around it having many wineries, cattle and sheep farms, but, for me, someone who hates the cold, it is too cold in the winter.

Of course, this Muslim would be terrorist had no chance of achieving his sick goal of “conquering” a “village” with a population of 40,000 people such as Orange, but, if some Muslim mob did take over, then so long to the wineries since drinking alcohol is forbidden in islam. As the Muslim scum now in charge in Afghanistan have just shown by murdering that folk singer, because music is not permitted in islam, so music is out, and I’m guessing the visual arts are also pretty much banned in islam, and, if it is literature, then the incident years ago with Salman Rushdie showed that honest writing, where a writer is free to write what he or she actually wants to write, which is basic to our western civilisation, is also not allowed in Islam. Islam destroys anything civilised,. Anyone involved in islam should be ashamed of how barbaric it is and should leave it if possible. Everything about islam is bad, so any Muslim superhero would definitely be a villain. Orange and the scenic areas around it are very attractive places to visit, there is no doubt about that. And it is not a really long drive from Sydney to get there and the scenery on the whole trip is very attractive. This would be Muslim terrorist must have just stuck a pin in a map and decided to conquer Orange, (what a bizarre idea) because, if he had actually visited the city, even he would have realised how insane his scheme was.

My guess is that you would need at least 200 fully armed personnel, armoured vehicles and some form of air support and ground to air missiles to take over and control a town of over 40,000 people. Remember Australia has restrictive gun control but a large number of farmers would have weapons.. This bloke is loony tunes. Yes he may be Muslim but he is a wannabe with out the mental capacity to pull that off. Put him in jail and then send him back to Lebanon.

  12. Hard line Muslim shot dead in New Zealand after attacking 6 people with a knife in a supermarket. He was actually being followed by the police wherever he went because of his history, but in the 60 seconds it took them to catch up to him he had stabbed 6 people. Luckily nobody else killed.

    New Zealand Prime Minister as expected states it has nothing to do with Islam.
