The Taliban is strong-arming its way to legitimacy, engaging in brutality similar to that which has been displayed by the Islamic State. But unlike the Islamic State, the Taliban is openly supported by Islamic countries such as Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Oman, and Iran, as well as by Hamas and even China.
According to Al Jazeera, Ahmad Massoud, Commander of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF), also was ready to give in to the Taliban when he “welcomed proposals” on Sunday “from religious scholars for a negotiated settlement to end the fighting.”
This amounted to a surrender to the obdurate Taliban, which has already been lying about respecting women, while murdering them for being uncovered and taking sex slaves — some girls as young as 12.
Now, in an about face, Ahmad Massoud has called for a “national uprising” against the Taliban.
Massoud stated:
“Wherever you are, inside or outside, I call on you to begin a national uprising for the dignity, freedom and prosperity of our country.”
He also called on the world community” to “unite to combat the insurgent group.” Unfortunately, the Taliban is not only gaining legitimacy from many Islamic countries and China, but also from Western leaders who think the Taliban may come around and “respect inclusivity.”

The leader of the Afghan opposition group resisting Taliban forces in the Panjshir Valley north of Kabul has said he welcomed proposals from religious scholars for a negotiated settlement to end the fighting.
Ahmad Massoud, head of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF), made the announcement on the group’s Facebook page on Sunday. Earlier, Taliban forces said they had fought their way into the provincial capital of Panjshir after securing the surrounding districts.
The Taliban took control of the rest of Afghanistan three weeks ago, taking power in Kabul on August 15 after the Western-backed government collapsed and President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.
“The NRF in principle agree to solve the current problems and put an immediate end to the fighting and continue negotiations,” Massoud said in the Facebook post.
“To reach a lasting peace, the NRF is ready to stop fighting on condition that Taliban also stop their attacks and military movements on Panjshir and Andarab,” he said, referring to a district in the neighbouring province of Baghlan.
A large gathering of all sides with the Ulema council of religious scholars could then be held, he said.
Earlier, Afghan media outlets reported that religious scholars had called on the Taliban to accept a negotiated settlement to end the fighting in Panjshir.
There was no immediate response from the Taliban.
NRF spokesman Fahim Dashti said on Sunday that “heavy clashes” were under way in Panjshir Valley.
According to the NRF, it surrounded “thousands of terrorists” in Khawak Pass and the Taliban abandoned vehicles and equipment in the Dashte Rewak area.
Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford, reporting from the capital, Kabul, said sources on the ground said hundreds of Taliban fighters had been taken prisoner on Sunday.
“Sources within the valley are saying the NRF are claiming to have captured about 1,500 Taliban. Apparently, these fighters were surrounded,” said Stratford.
“There are growing fears about the estimated 150,000 – 200,000 people inside the valley. ……

According to him, the Taliban have evolved and gotten more violent. Massoud also faulted the UN for making the wrong decision to engage in Taliban talks.
Meanwhile, Taliban in a statement said that Panjshir province has come under the “complete control of the Islamic Emirate”…

With greatest well-earned and permanent respect to the author, I disagree with the proposition that a lah-leeeee-bahnnn, (sarc intended), government can be legitimate. “Legitimate” means that those who approve it, approve its actions, including murder, slavery, tyranny and abuse of all kinds.
Dr. (MD) Wafa Sultan saw “mild” islamic abuse before leaving Syria, to write her book A God Who Hates. To me that is the most painful book I have ever read; and that is mild compared to the demonstrated practice, not aspirations, but practice, of the savages now in power in Afghanistan.

Frank, staunch Anti-Jihadist Christine Douglass-Williams does not consider the bloody Taliban to be legitimate in any civilized sense–she means that all too many fools in power are eager to consider them legitimate and to treat them as such. Grimly, this is increasingly common.

it looks as if this revolution leader had set some kind of trap to the taliban, letting them control kabul first but not all around kabul… we might be reading about a war that will go on for years just like syria…. as much as i have read and heard about them results to they have chosen the battlefield for afganistan and therefore have the advantage… so far i have heard that they killed hundreds of taliban and now this article states they have captured as many also…. anything that could hurt these islamic monsters is pleasantly accepted….

One group of Islamic monsters fighting another group of Islamic monsters. Afghanistan was always just a location on a map never really “one nation” it was an area with groups of tribes fighting each other. Trying to bring a democratic form of government there is like herding cats, as long as they believe and follow true Islam they can never be ruled by anything then a true strong man dictator. As much of the Middle East was ruled by Strong men dictators at one time who cared little for “true Islam” it was more peaceful and stable. .Under the ruling as old colonies of European nations 150 years ago it was more stable and humane to the natives there. Afghanistan people always rejected anything other then Islamic cultural, rulers, Sharia, meet the new boss same as the old boss has been the game there for a thousand years. The Russians try it with communism , we try it with some kind of “elections” and massive bribery ,the British try it with brute force over 100 years ago nothing works if the majority of the people think of themselves as members of some kind of Islamic tribe entitled to rule the world threw Sharia..

This is no more realistic. Apart from the ethnic Tajiks–Ahmad Massoud’s lot–and ethnic Hazara minorities, most Afghans have welcomed the Taliban.
And among the few who have not, *very* few are looking for any kind of freedom. It is more just which group holds the whip hand in implementing brutal Shari’ah law.

I hadn’t read about Oman being one of those countries that have recognized the Taliban. But the willingness w/ which a whole bunch of countries have expressed to recognize the Taliban this time around, as opposed to the 90s, is more a reflection of how the rest of the world has changed, since obviously the Taliban hasn’t, aside from being more media savvy than on that occasion
I think Panjsher has fallen, and Massoud and Saleh and their supporters would do well to flee to Tajikistan and organize a resistance from there

There is no honor among thieves. mozlums are taught to be thieves and to lie. Perhaps this guy and his group would not be as bad as the taliban…but have they shown themselves to be any different? They all have the same script, the same playbook, the same evil commands and demands. The degree to which they practice what they read may make some small differences.
The Apostle Paul said that in the “last days,” those opposed to what is right would “not be open to any agreement, fierce, having no natural affection, disobedient, unthankful, disloyal,”…and more.
The evidence of mankind being in these foretold “last days” is piling up.

Legitimize the Taliban and Biden will be able to send them billions of our TAX DOLLARS to defend Afghanistan from its population of tribes. Next thing you know we will be fighting side by side with our Taliban brothers. GIVE ME A BREAK. Or as Hunter would put it let the money flow.
