It wasn’t Trump who preoccupied the military with being woke at the expense of preparing an adequate exit strategy.
“RINO Rep. Liz Cheney Blames Trump for Collapse of Afghanistan,” by Martin Walsh, Conservative Brief, August 16, 2021:
Never-Trump Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney is going after Donald Trump for the collapse of Afghanistan.
During an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Cheney said Trump deserves “very significant responsibility” for the Taliban taking over Afghanistan as the U.S. military withdraws.
Guest anchor Jon Karl asked, “Ultimately, this is President Biden’s decision. He is the one who called for this withdrawal, is going forward with it. This didn’t happen in a vacuum. It was President Trump who negotiated the agreement with the Taliban to have a complete withdraw that was supposed to have by May 1st. Who bears responsibility?”
Cheney said, “Absolutely President Biden bears responsibility for making the decision. There’s no question that President Trump, his administration, Secretary Pompeo, they bear very significant responsibility for this. They walked down this path of legitimizing the Taliban, perpetuating this fantasy, telling the American people that the Taliban were partners in peace. President Trump told us the Taliban was going to fight terror. Secretary Pompeo told us the Taliban was going to renounce al Qaeda. The Taliban released prisoners across Afghanistan. There’s real concern they’re not just fighters in those prisons who will join the battle in Afghanistan, but the terrorists globally will be fed new soldiers for that fight. The delegitimization of the Afghan government — at one point, president trump said they would invite the Taliban to Camp David. ”
Karl interjected, “On September 11.”
Cheney said, “Yes. This disaster certainly began— look, the notion of we will end endless wars, that campaign slogan, what we’re watching in Afghanistan is what happens when America withdraws from the world. Everyone who has been saying America needs to withdraw well we’re getting a devastating, catastrophic real timeless lesson in what that means.”…

Liz Cheney is a disgrace, her father no better. Money over morals.

Flat tires, out of gas, snagged panty hose, rainy weather, mud on your carpet, burned toast.
It’s all Trump’s fault, isn’t it Lizzie ? And I didn’t even mention “Morning Breath” and the occasional burst of flatulence in a crowded elevator !

Liz Cheney is her father Dick Cheney in drag.

Liz and her ilk are even worse then the communist democrats… They are the enemy within and have allowed and done more damage to America than any other group..
A permanent ruling class was never intended by the founders and it never works… America needs term limits but it may be to late..
CogitoErgoSum says
His first week in office Joe Biden signed dozens of executive orders cancelling orders made by Trump. Biden could have done the same with regard to the withdrawal from Afghanistan. This debacle is completely on Joe Biden.
Wellington says
So, what would be her solution? Staying in Afghanistan indefinitely while American dead pile up and many who don’t die come back grievously injured? And all the while not identifying the true enemy, i.e., Islam? (N.B., If the West were knowledgeable and sane, it would have cordoned off the Islamic world as much as it did the Communist world during the Cold War. But the West is no longer collectively knowledgeable or sane. It is now stupid and bordering on self-destructive madness.)
Perhaps Cheney herself should have volunteered for a tour of duty since requirements for first-rate physical fitness to be in the military have gone out the window considering women have been declared equal to men by the now woke US military (N.B., lost on idiots like the present Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, is George Orwell’s assessment, to wit, that people sleep peaceably in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf). Nah, this was never in the offing.
I voted for Bush/Cheney twice, in 2000 and 2004. I don’t regret my votes because the alternatives were worse, i.e., Gore/Lieberman and Kerry/Edwards. But this doesn’t add up to any continuing regard for the Bushes and the Cheneys, both of whom I am done with forever, especially considering how they have treated the 45th President of the USA. Indeed, where the Bushes and Cheneys are concerned I have something bordering on contempt if not already there.

I agree with what you say there about cordoning off the Muslim world, Wellington. Alas, it doesn’t seem like the western world will ever wake up and do that. I see large numbers of Afghani Muslim barbarians being allowed into all our countries on compassionate grounds as a result of this debacle in that country. Large numbers of these scum will turn out to be the usual Muslim terrorists, Muslim rape gang members and enemies of our western values in every way imaginable. That is what we always get from Muslims. I am glad that, at least, the Hungarians and those other Visegrad bloc countries have woken up to Islam, which is a move in the right direction. It is a tiny move in the right direction. It is about time everyone woke up to Islam and blanket banned these barbaric scum. Unfortunately, nowhere near enough of the members of our societies are “knowledgeable and sane”.
Wellington says
I’ve got to give Islam this much credit, tg, and that is that it fools more people than Nazism or Marxism have. This is no excuse but it is dispositive of how Islam manages to be more deceptive than your standard secular totalitarian ideology.
Islam does indeed hide magnificently behind its religious veil—but enough is enough and anyone with half a brain should realize Islam’s “true worth” by now. Guess there is a major dearth of Westerners in our era with more than half a brain. Somehow Joe Biden comes foremost to mind here.
tim gallagher says
Yep, I don’t know how Islam has done it, Wellington, but the Muslims have managed to fool a hell of a lot of people for a very long time. There is surely so much evidence by now of Islam’s evil nature. As you say, maybe there are many people in western countries who are actually as dumb as Joe Biden so obviously is. It is a worrying situation, that’s for sure.
James Lincoln says
Yes, Wellington.
The spreaders of islam are very clever, using every tool in their toolbox to either deceive – or to force an agenda by violence…
gravenimage says
Yes–Islam should be isolated. It used to be, and we were largely safe from Jihad.
Infidel says
Liz should look for and take up an executive or board level job at Halliburton, while she’s not suffered the ignomy of being primaried. At least that will keep her gravy train going
I used to be a big admirer of her mom Lynne, when she used to be one of the Crossfire hosts on CNN. Yeah, back in the day, CNN did have a modicum of balance
Wellington says
I remember, Infidel, when Lynne Cheney was on CNN many years ago (around 15 years past) and she said something really stupid when asked about Islamic terrorism. Her reply was something to the effect that all the authorities she had come across had contended that Islam was a peaceful religion and therefore Muslim terrorists were violating the tenets of their faith. Right there, I wrote the mother off my list. Now the daughter is even worse.
Infidel says
Her dad uses Bernard Lewis as his source of information, which has its own issues. But yeah, your garden variety Republicans/Conservatives just go on to prove that Silicon Valley cliche: “When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem will look like a nail”. The hammer that worked great against Communism turned out to be completely irrelevant when dealing w/ islam, where what one needs is a Swiss army knife
Terry Gain says
Wellington
I defended GWB more often in his his last two years in office than he defended himself. I wrote him off years ago. The support of the Bush Republicans for Demented Biden is reprehensible but Trump is not blameless. I recall hearing Trump claim that GWB knew Saddam did not have any WMD before he invaded Iraq.
So, you reap what you sow.
Infidel says
Terry
There is a basis in Trump’s claim: it’s well known that GWB wanted to get at Saddam b’cos the latter had attempted to assassinate his father during a visit by the latter to Kuwait. Since WMDs couldn’t be found after the war, there is more reason to think that the intel community was under pressure from the White House to find any evidence, no matter what, of WMDs, no matter how long it took
On one hand, toppling Saddam was good b’cos it removed a major source of Hamas funding and threats to Israel. On the other hand, it was bad b’cos it removed Iran’s #1 regional threat, and also created a vacuum for ISIS
James Lincoln says
Infidel,
With everything that I have read and heard from reliable sources, I believe:
Saddam Hussein *purposely* wanted to keep the rest of the world guessing.
Why?
If Saddam Hussein had come totally “clean” with the weapons inspectors, and nothing of any significance were found, he would have been perceived (in the islamic world) as a *very* weak leader – caving in to the demands of the “Western international community”.
Can’t have that if you want to remain a dictator in the islamic world…
Wellington says
Excellent point, James. SH could not lose face in Muslimworld and so he played footsie with everyone. It is illustrative (yet again) of just how warped the Muslim sense of honor is.
gravenimage says
Agree, James and Wellington.
Doomer says
The truth of the matter is that the Taliban won because the majority of the 40 million people in Afghanistan and its 350,000 soldiers are not and never were interested in defending a democratic, open society. As a regular reader of the Leftist sites Slate,Vox and Vice ,I can assure you not one of their articles on the subject mentions that fact. That Afghan culture is anti-open society.
Wellington says
Seconded. Most of the non-Western world is not interested in freedom and it is high time the West realizes this. The only free non-Western societies, few as they are, are free BECAUSE of the West. South Korea, India and Japan come to mind and not many more.
When you leave Western Civilization, or the West’s truly positive influence upon non-Western societies, you leave freedom behind. So much for the wisdom of the East and all that other nine yards of nonsense about the greatness of non-Western polities. Almost total bullshit.
There is the West at its best (sure ain’t now) and there is the rest of mankind which is deficient in comparison to the West, not just in the freedom department but in most every department, including technology, the exploration of women’s rights and minority rights, and the capacity to apologize for past wrongdoings.
Raja says
Doomer and Wellington,
I couldn’t agree more on what you have stated: Most of the non-Western world is not interested in freedom and it is high time the West realizes this.
The “perfect” islam and koran only makes it worse. The unfolding of “fall” of Afghanistan should have been “seen coming”. Just about 10 days back an Afghan an elite said that US did nothing to eradicate radicalism in that country ! Is it US’ business to tame islam?Besides, all the meetings with the Taliban ended in stalemate as to who was giving or capable of giving a better Islamic government !
We are dealing with foolish people, you may be better of not dealing with them at all, the rewards of which we are reaping now and since a long time.
James Lincoln says
Yes, Doomer.
Now if only the United States had recognized this right after 9/11…
gravenimage says
All too true, Doomer.

Liz Cheney is blaming Trump for the Afghanistan debacle? Well Liz, I blame your dad Dick Cheney (partly) for what happened on 9/11. Old Dickie Cheney sat there in the Pentagon while Flight 77 was tracked coming in for 30 minutes, & Dick took no action against it. Why did you just let it hit the Pentagon Dick?
As testified by Norman Mineta:
NATIONAL COMMISSION ON TERRORIST ATTACKS UPON THE UNITED STATES
Public Hearing; Friday, May 23, 2003, Hart Senate Office Building, Room 216
Washington, DC
MR. MINETA: No, I was not. I was made aware of it during the time that the airplane coming into the Pentagon. There was a young man who had come in and said to the vice president, “The plane is 50 miles out. The plane is 30 miles out.” And when it got down to, “The plane is 10 miles out,” the young man also said to the vice president, “Do the orders still stand?” And the vice president turned and whipped his neck around and said, “Of course the orders still stand. Have you heard anything to the contrary?” Well, at the time I didn’t know what all that meant. And —
MR. HAMILTON: The flight you’re referring to is the —
MR. MINETA: The flight that came into the Pentagon.
MR. HAMILTON: The Pentagon, yeah.
Reading about what Dick Cheney did (& failed to do) on 9/11 is very damning for him.
Giacomo Latta says
”They walked down this path of legitimizing the Taliban”
So, the only reason that the Taliban are now in charge of Afghanistan is because they were ”legitimized?” We must have legitimized ISIS for a while.
OLD GUY says
Not to worry the Cheney family made a lot of money off the twenty year war. Liz Cheney is trying to place the blame else where and hoping to keep the gravy train running in her direction.

Liz is the daughter of Lon Chaney.. her and her father are both feckless vampire RINO’s shoveling dirt on the Trump presidency to discredit all of his amazing accomplishments.
All because Donnie T trashed and wiped the floor with Jeb Bush in the debates and called out his moron brother who we all voted for, George Jr, who illegally invading Iraq. Bush, was a weapon of mass destruction, like Liz is now.
Remember, it was Bush, who right after September 11th, who foolishly said.. “Islam is a religion of peace”
As the Islamic demons of CAIR was standing shoulder to shoulder with that simpleton.
How rich did the Bushes and Cheney’s get in the past 30 yrs from starting wars in the Middle East? Blood money on the backs of our armed forces personnel who made the ultimate sacrifices. Shameless
