Remember: burning a Qur’an is the most heinous form of blasphemy, and the one who does it deserves death according to Islamic law’s death penalty for blasphemy. But committing killing infidels in accord with Qur’anic commands (cf. 2:191, 4:89, 9:5, 47:4, etc.) is not blasphemy, but commendable and exemplary piety.

ABBOTTABAD: The police have arrested two brothers and a transgender person on charges of desecrating the holy Quran in Abbottabad and Havelian.
In the first incident, a transgender person identified as Qaiser Zada, a resident of Swabi, was arrested on Thursday after he was allegedly caught by locals near the Jinnah Bagh in Abbottabad city while burning a copy of the holy Quran. He was beaten up by the people and was later handed over to the police.
The police registered FIR against the accused under Section 295-B, and later produced him before the judicial magistrate, who remanded him for three days.
In the other incident, the police arrested two brothers – Asif Fareed and Abdullah Fareed – when locals allegedly caught them burning pieces of Quran and other Islamic material….
The two were also booked under Section 295-B on the complaint of local elders and ulema.
Sources said that people blocked the Abbottabad-Havelian Road after the incident, with some protesters attacking the Havelian police station and trying to enter the lock-up. The police used tear gas to disperse them.
The protesters were chanting slogans and were demanding that the police hand the alleged blasphemers to them….

How likely is it that any of these three would have deliberately. set fire to the Qur’an? That would be suicidal. No doubt there is another story here, about why some Muslims wanted these three arrested and, ideally, killed. Was it a dispute over property? A desire to get rid of brothers running a rival business or possessing property that some other Muslims wanted? Was the transgender person accused of such an act — Qur’an-burning — because that would be the easiest way to rid the world of this, in the Islamic view, abomination?

They obviously set up Qaiser Zada for this accusation. They are thus expressing two separate bigotries at once … against LGBTQ and against non-Muslims.
Islam is systemically bigoted. The blasphemy law in Pakistan is so easy to misapply, it is used whenever a Muslim owes money to a non-Muslim as a way of avoiding repaying the dept.
When the non-Muslim realizes he will be murdered for blasphemy or his house burned down or his business smashed, the debt is magically forgiven.

On a different note, an update on the story of the 8 year old boy who was arrested on blasphemy and whose initial release caused the demolition of a Paki temple. He was released on bail, and his family has gone into hiding
