My latest in PJ Media:
C-SPAN on Wednesday announced the results of its 2021 Presidential Historians Survey, and it’s drearily predictable: In the overall rankings, Barack Obama cracks the top ten, while Donald Trump is down among those whose presidencies were one long dumpster fire: Franklin Pierce, Andrew Johnson, and James Buchanan. This is not surprising, since the surveyed historians are mostly college professors, who are mostly on the far left, although there are a few notable conservatives among them. The reasons why they ranked Trump so low reveal more about their own assumptions, and the advanced decay of American academia today, than they do about Trump. Most of these professors shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near American university students. But that would require a sane American academic culture.
The presidents (all except for Old Joe Biden and his handlers, who, after all, have only had six months to make a mess of everything), were ranked in seven categories of “Individual Leadership Characteristics”: Public Persuasion; Crisis Leadership; Economic Management; Moral Authority; International Relations; Administrative Skills; Relations with Congress; Vision / Setting an Agenda; Pursued Equal Justice For All; and Performance Within Context of Times.
Cumulatively, Trump ranked 41st out of 44 (Grover Cleveland, who is officially counted as the twenty-second and twenty-fourth president, is only ranked once in the C-SPAN survey). In “Public Persuasion,” however, Trump ranks 32nd, which is perhaps a testimony to the fact that he was able to win over large numbers of Americans in the face of the virtually unanimous and relentlessly vicious hostility of the establishment media toward him. However, in this he ranks below Richard Nixon, who left office with just a handful of defenders and nothing like the fervent following Trump still commands. Trump is also placed below John Quincy Adams, William Howard Taft, and George H. W. Bush in this category, despite the fact that all of them were voted out of office far more resoundingly than Trump was in 2020. What most likely accounts for Trump’s low rating in this category is that the professors largely disapproved of his means of public persuasion, most notably his pointing out the hypocrisy of the Leftist media’s claim to be objective, and going over the heads of the establishment news organs to speak straight to the American people via Twitter.
Trump matches his overall ranking of 41st in the category of Crisis Leadership. After all, for over a year now, the Left has ignored the daily press conferences Trump held at the height of the COVID-19 scare, and his hands-on approach to dealing with it, preferring to laud the likes of Andrew Cuomo and Gretchen Whitmer who only made the problem significantly worse. To rank Trump higher in this category would be to repudiate the Democrats’ entire 2020 presidential campaign and one of the principal foundations of Biden’s handlers’ administration; American university professors today wouldn’t be caught dead doing that.
There is more. Read the rest here.

As usual, Liberal Democrats have it all upside down, and backwards. The Obama/Biden administration put America, and Israel at great risk, as they compromised with our enemies. Obama said in his book, if political winds should shift, he would always stand with the Muslims. He pushed the Socialist agenda, while Biden’s family compromised with Communist China, giving them an edge in American industries. Biden has shut down the Alaskan pipeline, and Keystone pipeline to agribusiness in Nebraska, shutting down thousands of jobs, and letting gas prices double. But he approved the Russian pipeline, which bypasses the Ukraine. His son, Hunter, was being investigated in his dealings with a Ukraine Energy Co., but the Ukraine Prosecutor Viktor Shokin filed a criminal complaint against Joe Biden for stopping the investigation on Hunter. Joe Biden used Quid Pro Quo, saying they wouldn’t get U.S. funds, if they continued to investigate Hunter. This is what they flipped on Trump with the impeachment nonsense. Socialist Dems continue every deceitful trick in the book, as they push their Communist agenda.

Obviously the worst thing about Trump for Democrats is he kept his promises. The worst thing about Trump for Republicans is he let the voters down when he did not get Democrats convicted for voter fraud. The worst thing about Trump for the world is he failed to get re-elected. It is affecting world economics and world peace.

President Donald J. TRUMP
is the best President ever.
We need him in the White House.
Wellington says
No, Lincoln was the finest President and Washington second. Trump is in the top ten if truth matters—and accuracy too, which is a subsidiary aspect of truth.
Truth and its important and necessary ally, i.e., accuracy, are rather scarce nowadays, in no small measure to the dumbing down of academia and the media in our modern era, also to many in the political realm, e.g., AOC.
This is my stand on this “matter” and I’m stickin’ to it.
Infidel says
Wellington, I won’t argue here, but see my response to James Lincoln below. If Trump in a second term ends up defanging Communist China and causing it to come apart, he’ll have transcended Lincoln, imho. And any future president who recognizes islam for the threat it is and forces an ummah-wide reform similar to the one MbS is doing in Saudi Arabia will far transcend both men
nathalie says
I don`t know Lincoln, or Washington.
Maybe they are very good Presidents too? How knows?
I love TRUMP.

Can’t say I know everything about all US presidents, I only have surface knowledge of most of them (because I’m not American), but I remember reading a story about George Washington where some merchant asked him if it would be legal for him to own a cannon (the ultimate weapon with highest destructive power at that time) because he wants it on his ship to fend off pirates, and George replied something along the lines of “Let’s check the constitution: ‘SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!’ Go for it.” That makes him #1 in my book. That and the fact that not a single American wanted him to step down after his term was over, but he did it anyway. What a legend.

I think that, if you are a conservative, and you know that most of these academic types are left wing wankers whose views you consider to be idiotic and out of touch with reality, then you would wear their disapproval as a badge of honour. I imagine that that is how Trump would see the views of these academic imbeciles.

So those leftist college professor rank Barack Obama as one ofthe best American Presidents and Donald Trump as one ofthe worst American Presidents..
That’s not a surprise nor it is disturbing if an intelligent US citizen will consider the source.

Wellington,
Presidents Lincoln, Washington, and Trump were all absolutely fantastic US Presidents.
All had very different sets of problems thrown at them – at very different points in time – and they all performed extraordinarily well.
I find it very difficult to sort out who was the “best of the best”, but I defer to you as you are a highly intelligent and astute historian…

I’d rate Reagan right up there for causing the Soviet Union to come apart. If Trump has a second term and sees to the end of the CPC regime in China, then he’ll be right up there w/ him. And whichever president recognizes islam as the threat it is and forces it to change on a worldwide scale – imagine an MbS in all 50 muslim countries forcing the same sort of reforms there – will transcend both of them!
Daniel Triplett says
Agreed. Reagan deserves a ton of historical strategic credit for his destruction of USSR. And if Islam had been thrown in his face as it was in the faces of all presidents post-9/11, I’m sure Reagan would’ve confronted it head-on with unwavering conviction and not bought into the great lie that Islam is “The Religion of Peace misinterpreted by a Tiny Minority of Extremists.” He would’ve handled global Islam the same way he handled global communism and USSR.
I love and respect Trump. I voted for him 4 times already and will of course support him if he runs again in ’24. But I have to say his position toward Islam has been a disappointment. While his rhetoric about Islam early in his 2016 campaign was inspiring, he somehow became naive about the motive, mission, and methods of Islam. One of his first foreign policy decisions and his first foreign trip was a $330 Billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia. Aside from his initial travel ban, any further rhetoric against Islam was non-existent, and I think he’s overconfident and naive when he continues to claim that if he had won 2020, “Iran would’ve been begging to make a deal within one week.” Moreover, he never overturned the policies of Obama and Brennan in 2011 that stripped the entire Federal government’s ability to even mention Islam/Muslims/Jihad.
Of course I’ll enthusiastically support him in 2024, but I’ve started thinking Ron DeSantis would be a better choice for GOP 2024 POTUS candidate. He’s unassailable in my view and has outstanding job performance as a career military officer (20 years Navy Officer Active Duty/Reserves), US Congressman, and FL Governor.
With his military experience, DeSantis understands the Islamic threat in ways Trump cannot. DeSantis is no idiot, and he always puts principle before politics (Trump has too). Admittedly, I don’t know how DeSantis feels about Islam. I’m just making giant assumptions here, but I’m guessing he ‘gets it.’ And I know civilians don’t want to hear this, but military experience is important for anyone wanting to be POTUS/CINC. That’s the POTUS’s most significant role, and his perspective would benefit by having worn America’s uniform himself, along with the military training/judgment/devotion to America such experience gives him. Seems appropriate that anyone ordering troops into war would’ve had experience standing in the shoes of those troops himself.
I love them both. DeSantis has already said he won’t run for POTUS if Trump runs in ’24. If Trump does run, most all Republicans, me included, will be extremely pissed-off if he doesn’t make Ron his VP. Trump is old and his time is limited. Ron De Santis is young; he’s the standard-bearer of the GOP’s future.
Infidel says
I wouldn’t assume that military people are automatically conversant w/ islam. In fact, they assume that countries like Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Bahrein and so on are fine countries (Saudi Arabia is only starting in that direction, assuming MbS is successful) and that the only enemies are Iran and sunni jihadist groups. Every candidate has to be specifically probed on this issue. So far, Ben Carson looks like the only one w/ a clue
Trump was never a pure ideologue, and if you wanna point to his policy on Saudi Arabia, I’d say that it’s been a success, if MbS’ attempted reforms are anything to go by. My only criticism of him is overlooking the threat posed by Turkey. While it’s a blind spot for him, since he was never a foreign policy wonk, he was ill served by everyone around him – be it Pompeo, Bolton, Mattis or anyone else. The foreign policy establishment think that the only issue w/ Turkey is them buying the S4 aircraft from Russia. But Turkey’s moves in Syria, against the Kurds and Armenia should have been their motivation on turning against Turkey
One more thing – if Trump runs, Ron DeSantis cannot be his VP: both presidential and vice presidential caniddates can’t be from the same state, and if they are, then the electoral votes of that state goes to the candidates w/ the next highest votes. The GOP is in no position to gift Florida to the Dems. Trump will have to re-designate himself from another state if he wants De Santis as his #2
Another thing: Mike Pence won’t run if Trump runs, since he knows that he has no hopes of beating Trump. But he probably would run against Ron De Santis, and at least the opinion polls showed him ahead, although that may well be due to name recognition

Speaking of which, I finally bought RS’ book ‘Rating American Presidents’ last week on Nook, and now have it as an ebook. Plan to start reading it this week, and find out more about presidents other than the ones I’m familiar w/ i.e. Bush XLI and after
Infidel says
One thing I forgot to add above – why does RS have a disdain of Barnes & Noble? I understand the disdain for Amazon and its censorship, but has B&N done the same? And if so, w/ whom?
gravenimage says
There is this story, Infidel:
“Barnes & Noble offered al-Qaeda bomb instructions as a free download”
https://jihadwatch.org/2018/01/barnes-noble-offered-al-qaeda-bomb-instructions-as-a-free-download
Infidel says
Right now, if I mouse over the books on the right, I see B&N links to them. Does that mean that B&N have reversed themselves on this issue?
I originally had (and still have books on) Amazon Kindle, but in 2018 itself, I decided to move away from Amazon and opened a B&N account, and buy my books there. Since they have to be ebooks, my choice of bookstores is a lot more constrained than most people
gravenimage says
Infidel, I imagine they got enough bad press that they have ended this as a free download some time ago. I am no expert on the rest of their policies.

Trump would have been considered one of the greatest presidents, had there not been a cultural revolution going on in the US that is similar to the Maoist ‘cultural revolution’ that swept China.
The difference with the neo-Marxist-cancel-culture revolution in the US is that it is also GLOBALIST and relies upon the financing of international OLIGARCHS who are building global empires using such stupid college professors as their MINIONS.
The globalist oligarchs are probably non-ideological and merely see globalism as an opportunity for them to exploit.
Globalism is, in fact, a modern version of the Tower of Babel and will meet a similar, confusing end.
