India: Muslim leader says he will sell his child to raise bounty for head of man who called for reforming Qur’an

Over the years we have many times pointed out the difference between genuine Islamic reformers and deceivers. A reformer admits that there are passages in the Qur’an (and Hadith) calling for violence, and tries to find ways to mitigate their ability to incite violence. A deceiver, on the other hand, declares that no such passages exist, that the problem is all with misunderstanding of Islam, and that properly understood, the Qur’an teaches peace. In the Waseem Rizvi controversy, we see why there aren’t more genuine reformers: they risk being branded apostates or heretics and murdered as a result.

Amir-ul-Hassan Jafari, a Shia lawyer and ‘activist’, has announced Rs 11 lakh bounty for whoever beheads ex-UP Shia Board Chief Waseem Rizvi for his petition to remove 26 verses from Quran. Rizvi, in his petition, alleged that these verses promote terrorism and jihad. Since the reports came out about his petition, Rizvi has been facing backlash from the Muslim community.

In his statement, former president of Moradabad Bar Association, Amir-ul-Hassan Jafari, was addressing a program in Moradabad where he said that Rizvi is a demon. “He is not a Hindu or Muslim; he is a demon. I want to announce that whoever beheads him, I will give him Rs 11 lakh.”

When Jafari was confronted by the media about his statement, he repeated that he would award anyone who brings Waseem’s head. He further added that to pay the bounty, he will collect money from the bar association, and if he still could not collect the amount, he would sell his child. When he was further asked if beheading will solve all the problems, he said, “There is no less punishment for anyone who disrespects Quran Sharif.” He claimed that had it been Sharia Law in India, Rizvi would have been stoned to death by now.

A tsunami of death threats against Rizvi

Since Rizvi filed the petition, he has been attacked with death threats. On the day he filed the petition Hasnain Jaffrey Dumpy, the national president of the Islamic organisation – Shiane-Haider-e-Karrar Welfare Association, announced that he would give Rs 20,000 to anyone who brings Rizvi’s head.

An undated video emerged from Kashmir, where a group of people were demanding a death sentence for Rizvi. For some unknown reason, they also chanted slogans against America….

As per some reports, some youth in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, demolished the grave Rizvi had reserved for himself in Talkatora Imambara.

In Banihal, Jammu and Kashmir, a group of Sunni Muslims burnt an effigy of Wasim Rizvi and demanded a death sentence for him.

A video of his brother Zaheer Rizvi also emerged in which he claimed that Waseem Rizvi is longer associated with his family, and for the last three years, he had not visited him once. He even called him mad.

He said, “I have no information about what he said, why he said and who asked him to say that. Allah will keep Quran safe. No one should be worried as no verses will be ever removed from the Quran.”

    Anyway, to be fair, banning of verses is counterproductive. This has happened before too. In 1984, H.K. Chakraborty, filed a petition with the West Bengal state government to ban the Quran. He added a list of 37 Quran verses which “preach cruelty, incite violence and disturb public peace” (to use the terminology of the Penal Code), 17 verses which “promote, on grounds of religion, feelings of enmity, hatred and ill-will between different communities in India”, and 31 verses which “insult other religions as also the religious beliefs of other communities”. Even after subtracting some verses which could be regarded as legitimate polemics, there are about 60 passages in the Quran that formulate a doctrine of demonisation of non-Muslims, of hatred and violence against them. If the Indian laws prohibit communal hate propaganda, Chakraborty was right in considering the Quran as an excellent candidate for banning. But the WB High Court decided that the Quran was the Divine word of God and cannot be judged by earthly means. So much for secularism, eh?

    Thing is, even the petitioners had made it clear that they didn’t expect them to actually follow through with the ban and that would’ve been counterproductive, as I said earlier. Their true motives was to expose the pseudo-secular nature of the Indian Constitution. In all likelihood, this petition will meet the same fate. This is simply a reminder of what exactly had happened over 3 decades ago.

    The fact that its a Shia Muslim in this case, should be a stronger reminder for future generations. Wonder what Madam Truschke would have to say, telling females and Muslims to “be careful” when that film director had come to campus after the Rutgers debacle. Fucking bootlicker.

      • I don’t think that an equitable secular constitution is in itself a problem–theocracies are seldom a good solutiion for anyone, even the sect it is purported to support. And instituting “blasphemy” laws makes you all too like Shari’ah states.

          I must say that your idea that leftists are big supporters of Christians is way off–certainly, in the West they are generally very hostile.

          There were a lot of factors in the fall of the Roman Empire–barbarian invasions, internal corruption and loss of confidence, and the rise of Islam as a final coup de grace. Your idea that Christianity destroyed this civilizatiin is a very odd one.

          1) The biggest problem the world is facing today is that free market advocates and those on the right have not been very successful in destroying left because they don’t seem to understand them well. Failure to understand them has led to the result that everyone who does not agree with the left’s agenda is immediately branded illiberal, fascist or with some other ugly and fancy word that leftists often coin to denounce their opponents. Most right wingers think that leftists can be defeated by right economics and making people rich.

          But you must understand that Marx was a cultural critic and not an economist in the actual sense of the word. Thus most of his work has dealt with subverting society using the cultural agenda rather than just use the economic agenda.

          At least here in the US, it’s true that the GOP has been totally obsessed on economics and geopolitics, and totally ceded the cultural space to the Left.           I also endorse this campaign by J Sai Deepak to get the government control out of all Hindu temples, and transfer that to the Hindu community. The muslims have their waqf boards, the Sikhs have their gurudwara prabhandak committees, the Hindus should be free of the government and allowed to have either unitary or distributed nodes of control for religious institutions, which should run their temples, schools and so on. India may not always have a Hindutva government, so it needs to lay down the template where society runs healthily independent of who’s in power

Nobody has right to put bounty on another citizen and nobody has right to sell another human being to raise money. This is what islamists did in 632 AD.         • I think that whenever Modi retires – I believe he can’t run again in 2024 since he will be 74 and the BJP’s retirement age is 75 – it won’t be an automatic succession for Amit Shah, and that the BJP will probably have to pick b/w him and Yogi.
