Amazon, Allah is Dead, and Easy Meat

It has been argued, and I agree, that we are living during a period of cultural revolution; a time when the insidious political-correctness movement has finally morphed into outright book banning on the part of what has become the largest book retailer on the planet, Amazon.

Shortly after 9/11, I searched Amazon for books to explain the motivation of the attack. I found Robert Spencer’s Onward Muslim Soldiers, Ibn Warraq’s Why I am Not a Muslim, and Bat Ye’or’s Islam and Dhimmitude. Soon thereafter, I located Jihad Watch and began working for Robert Spencer to support his efforts to elucidate what seemed to be Islamic insanity rampaging all over the world.

Now I know it is not insanity, but the result of human beings believing in a false and evil religion which caused them to place obedience to the dead doctrine of Islam over their belief in, and experience of, Truth, Beauty and Goodness – the true spiritual values which guide, or should guide, human destiny.

My 2011 book, Allah is Dead: Why Islam is Not a Religion, was my first attempt to analyze religion and to explain why Islam is in error. Ironically, it was Amazon which allowed me to launch an independent publishing company, New English Review Press. Because of the strong sales of Allah is Dead, we were able to go on to publish over three dozen more books on many topics — political, cultural and literary.

On February 9, almost ten years to the day after Allah was first published, I received a notice that this book had been removed from sale on Amazon, then a week later, I received notice that the meticulously researched 2016 book, Easy Meat: Inside Britain’s Grooming Gang Scandal by Peter McLoughlin, had likewise been removed – book, e-book, audiobook – everything, just gone.

My first reaction was to pull our advertising on Amazon – what a racket! They are the retailer and advertiser in one – that is one area future trust-busters might well examine. Theodore Dalrymple then suggested we appeal, if for no other reason than to make Amazon give us an explanation.

Well, we never did get an explanation, but Amazon did relent and restored the e-books this week. We are told the hardcovers and audiobook will likewise be restored soon. I don’t know why these books were targeted for removal in the first place after having been offered for sale over many years. I can only presume the books were searched for anything that could be construed as “hate speech” and having found none, Amazon could not justify keeping them off their shelves. But do they need a justification? Could they be sued successfully for the harm caused? Possibly.

The zeal for suppressing ideas is an ancient impulse which has taken hold in many of our once venerable institutions, now filled with zealous little McCarthy-ites who seem to want to blacklist half the population. But as we all know, truth does not fear a challenge, so this great fear of ideas must mean these social justice warriors are pushing something rather less than true and so it is truth that is causing their consternation – not untruth, as they claim.

For there to be progress, our civilization depends on the robust debate of ideas. Once ideas are suppressed, confusion results and where confusion reigns, all manner of evil can flourish. History is filled with the stories of those who stood firm in the face of intimidation for the sake of truth. Many have lain down their lives rather than capitulate to untruth. If we resolve to be as firm, this battle against the current cultural revolution will be won.

After all, if they can cancel Dr. Seuss, is anyone safe?

  2. I got “Easy Meat’ on my Kindle through Amazon for 10 bucks late last year. Did they re-instate it, or what? It is a no-holds-barred treatment of the subject.

  3. Some Dr. Seuss and Curious George books are also being removed from the shelves.

    The world is mad for the idea certain people and some ideas cannot be heard; that those in charge must cancel out anything with which they disagree. Especially if it is True.
    Anything that sheds light on islam, exposing it for the evil that it is, the violence that is taught as commands from the demon god, that moslums lie in order to protect the “image” of this wild beast, must be silenced, and destroyed if possible.

There is definitely a very dangerous fashion these days for preventing certain politically incorrect, (that is, mostly from the left wing fascists’ way of viewing things) but truthful ideas getting out to the public. It is a dangerous trend because I think it will prevent many younger people from ever hearing the truth about many issues, including Islam’s vile nature. When I was trying to learn a bit about islam, because I could see how much trouble Muslims seemed to cause, with terrorist attacks and rape gangs and other crime, I read Robert Spencer’s “Islam Unveiled” and also parts of Ibn Warraq’s “Why I Am Not a Muslim” and they were enlightening. I know enough about islam and have made up my mind, but, if books critical of Islam and Muslims, are banned, it may become hard for younger people to be woken up about islam’s nature. I’m glad to hear that Rebecca Bynum’s book did have strong sales and, no doubt, would have woken up plenty of people.

  7. Rebecca, do you have the book on B&N Nook or other platforms? It would be a good idea to pull it out of Amazon altogether and promote it instead on those other platforms. Granted that some of them may be woke as well, but it’s important that big monopolies like Amazon start getting hit and losing mindshare, as well as marketshare

  8. When I found I couldn’t order any TR books on Amazon, I went elsewhere and took the rest of my business with me. If Bezos’ customers would cancel him, we’d all benefit. I just canceled cable rather than send $$$ to people who tell me continually that I’m evil. The parking lot was full of people waiting for the store to open so they could return their cable equipment.
    The country needs to make it their priority to cancel the cancel crowd. I also just signed a petition to remove our governor since there’s no rational movement on lockdown after months of presenting obviously manipulated data. With Kamala hovering like a vulture, we’re headed for worse than we’ve already seen. Joe has succeeded on only on one front; making 2021 even worse than 2020.

    Or, to put it another way, the “offence” is: “being a cartoonist while being white”.

  10. I often quote Rebecca Bynum. She has done a superb job of explaining REAL ISLAM even to closed-minded Western people. All they have to do is read Bynum’s books.

  11. I salute Rebecca Bynum for having the courage to state what is no doubt true, yet forbidden: Islam is not a religion (unless God is perverse).

        • rather than attack us, JJF, why not *join* us in fixing the problem? when atheists and adherents of different religions fight one another, the hard-core left and the ummah exult and grow stronger. let’s change that; once sanity has been restored, we can all have fun discussing religion and politics *WITHOUT* killing one another.

        • I agree, BA. When we were last in the UK, more than one individual seemed to be exulting in the decline of Christianity and I wondered, looking around there, just why they believed Islam is going to give them a better deal.

Immediately after 9/11, I too read these same books, and MANY MORE…indespensable was Trifkovic’s Sword and the Prophet, and the online book http://www.prophetofdoom.net... also followed Pamela Geller and many more. Ali Sina was a great resource, and actually answered emails. I then began sharing on facebook, and in emails to everyone I know. I lost a few friends, but gained many. I was also threatened from Muslims from around the world… The ignorance of the Public in USA and around the world, is shocking, and in fact, SUICIDAL. Our fked up FAKE NEWS MEDIA is responsible as any for the coverup of the Truth of Islam – a death cult, lead by a sex-crazed pedophile, rapist, perpetrator of genocide and murder. The Cult should be expelled from all civilized nations…always remember: “It is the duty of every good Muslim to fight the Jihad, with all means at his disposal, until the World bows down to Allah’…that means your neighbor, your co-worker, and your family members…If they tell you they are ‘a devout Muslim’, that means you are a filthy infidel, and your are a POS, and can be killed in the name of their false ‘god’ Allah and his ‘prophet’ Mohammad, Piss be Upon him.

    • Particularly books, I use Nook from Barnes/Noble. I prefer e-books to slaughtered trees

  16. The best book on describing Islam and what it is all about and what it intends to do is ‘Mosques and Miracles’ by Stuart Robinson.

  17. I buy ebooks from the Kobo (I bought it before the Kindle became big). You should put your books on other platforms by just putting them on Amazon you are giving them power over yourselves.
    It actually very easy to publish on every platform that exists – I did it! Just use draft to digital

  18. It is totally appaling that EASY MEAT has been removed! This is the cronical of the Jihad being used against Western KAFIR mainly white children in the Uk & the Netherlands & Scandinavia, France, & Germany etc. The LEFT in the UK is still in denial about Muslim Groups & the Guardian is now printing lies again about “lack of evidence about ethnicity ” of the Rapists.

  20. Hello everyone! I’m very surprised that anyone remembers me here – my last post was 15 years ago! Our books are available everywhere, but the ebooks have been exclusive to Amazon as I’d have to raise the price to be paid the same amount if I go through our distributor. Nevertheless, we’ll be moving them over and saying goodbye to Amazon shortly. Ironically, if I hadn’t gone through them directly for the ebooks, I wouldn’t have been notified they were pulled or had any way to appeal. Although the books were also pulled, our distributor has said nothing. So Robert, you best keep an eye on your books over there too.

    • I just missed you at Jihad Watch, Ms. Bynum–I discovered this great site in 2006. But I checked out many older stories, including your own. Then I read your work for years at the New English Review. I have greatly appreciated your contributions over the years.

    • Rebecca, I forget when I first discovered this site (it was after listening to RS on Lee Rodgers, Melanie Morgan and Officer Vic on AM 560 in the Bay Area years ago), but I do remember when you were a part of the Robert-Hugh-Rebecca troika here at JW ?. At any rate, I did read some of your articles on New English Review as well

      I used to use Kindle – still have some books that I bought there – but I’ve completely switched to Nook. As mentioned above, I prefer eBooks, so that I don’t have to deal w/ not just rotting pages but also the logistics of moving many books whenever I move. So as you move out of Amazon, it would be nice if your books continue to be available as eBooks, be it on Barnes & Noble’s Nook or anywhere else

      Some distributor you must have, if they didn’t look out for your interests. Guess we now have to explore the wokeness of the people we do business w/

    • That is a shame they sound interesting but I have all my books on the Kobo so don’t want to have two e-readers.
      I will just buy some of Robert’s books instead.

  21. There may be another explanation to at least the hard copy “book burning”. In 2015, I interviewed for an Amazon job. The interview included a warehouse tour. During the tour, the guide stated no less than three times, “There may be a Bible on the rack right next to The Satanic Rituals, but we fill any order without hesitation.” I thought it an odd comment at the time (and still do). However, the very large fulfillment centers being near large, urban areas, there may be a significant number of muz employed in those places. Imagine the disruption if muz are sending Incomplete orders out the door, missing “islamophobic” material. The staff time required to track down and rectify may have caused Amazon to fold on the issue. It’s easier than trying to monitor all the muz in the warehouse.

    • Well, that’s an interesting thought as many of their drivers here are. Far higher representation than one would expect given our area demographics. Before we quit using Amazon altogether, we had begun having deliveries made to lockers rather than our home due to behaviors of drivers.

    • With respect, I think the idea that Amazon is censoring books because of sabotage from Muslim employees is questionable. Not that Muslims would not do this, but that Bezos needs an excuse for “cancel culture”.

Political Correctness, Steamroller Egalitarianism, Rampant Relativism, Rubber-Stamp Respect, and Teacup students–all seem examples of the (or a) classic major frequent issue: A GOOD IDEA, BUT CARRIED TOO FAR….. Something which might be studied in colleges-universities above and beyond “diversity & inclusion,” seemingly Required Subjects, eh…
