The European Commission has begun an “infringement procedure” against Hungary over a law requiring foreign-funded NGO’s to disclose their donors to authorities. Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga said that the country was ready to scrap the legislation, but rightly described the EC’s intervention as a “politically motivated procedure.”
Although Hungary should oppose the Commission, an EU law restricts it, in effect tying its hands from pursuing what should be its sovereign right to protect its country from nefarious foreign influence. The Hungarian law was part of efforts to limit George Soros’ influence in the country; the EU has opposed such efforts in the past.
More broadly, foreign funding has been critical in efforts to aid the red-green axis in its infiltration and undermining of Western free societies, from Marxist Black Lives Matter campaigns to Muslim Brotherhood drives to “destroy Western civilization from within.
The European Commission’s infringement procedure is worrisome; it should be understood as a fundamental right of every government that it can keep track of foreign funding within its borders. Also, given Iran’s infiltration of Western countries via its proxies, foreign funding is of particular concern.

Hungary is ready to scrap the legislation on foreign-funded NGOs, and has sent a draft amendment to the statute to the European Commission, Justice Minister Judit Varga said on Friday, reacting to the EC’s announcement that it was launching an infringement procedure against Hungary over the matter.
On Thursday, the EC launched an infringement procedure against Hungary for flouting a ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union concerning its law on civil organizations.
In a letter of formal notice to Hungary, the EC called on Hungary to implement the CJEU’s ruling of June 2020, in which the court ruled that Hungarian regulation of foreign-funded NGOs violated EU rules on the free movement of capital as well as the fundamental right to protection of personal data and freedom of association.
Varga said on Facebook that once the EC approved the draft, the Hungarian government was ready to submit it to parliament so it could be tabled in the spring session.
The European Commission referred Hungary to the CJEU over legislation accepted in 2017, requiring NGOs to make full disclosure of foreign funding over 7.2 million forints (EUR 208,700).
Referring to the law, Varga said on Friday that the government had “made the funding of NGOs transparent to make it clear which NGOs are trying to exert political pressure on Hungarian public life with foreign support.”
Although Hungary acted fairly and transparently, the EC launched a “politically motivated procedure” resulting in the CJEU’s ruling last June, she said….

Not that simple I’m afraid. Being an EU member gets you the benefit of no-visa travelling and settling anywhere within the EU. There are also trade tax and procedure-shortening benefits when importing/exporting goods to other EU members. There’s also the access to EU’s treasury should the need arise (depending on if the boss countries decide to give it away). Basically, if you’re not in the EU, your life becomes a bureaucratic nightmare, which is all by design so that you wouldn’t even think about leaving.
But that’s a deal with the devil because in exchange for all the benefits, you are beholden to EU’s laws, and if they deem it fit, the European Commission supersedes your authority in your own country, as shown here. Now that I think about it, there’s not that much of a difference between the EC and the US Federal Government.

If Hungary is well governed, why would they need the ability to seamlessly travel throughout Europe? Let them travel w/ visas but remain within Hungary. As it is, Hungary is trying to boost its population by encouraging its citizen to marry and have plenty of children, so that they don’t have the same issue that other EU countries have – aging populations, which then make them think that they need to import their youth from dar ul islam. And if they follow sensible fiscal policies, they need not be dependent on the EU
The main issue is to be free of what you mentioned in your second paragraph – EU laws superseding Hungarian laws. Britain left the EU for good reasons: the same reasons would apply to other EU members, including Hungary

You’re severely underestimating the absolute bureaucratic hell that comes with not being an EU member, it’s not just the visa (that’s probably the least concern).
As for the people not leaving, that’s kind of difficult because Hungary is having the same issue as all other non-Western European countries have — economy. Due to it being on the lower end (compared to your Western neighbors), Hungarians, as well as all other Eastern Europeans, are looking towards the West for work. And in such countries where economy is not great, there is also the problem of money-grubbing corrupt politicians.
Now, politicians being corrupt is hardly a novelty, even for the West, but it’s especially bad in countries where moderate sums of money can give you a lot of power and influence due to it being so sparse and sought after. I live in one such country and all the politicians here (literally every single one) are greedy lying sleazebags who would sell their own mothers for a few extra coppers. As a result, the economy tends to trend downwards for the ordinary citizens, so many of them are left with no choice but to seek fortune elsewhere (usually in the West).
To give you an example, I, as a master’s degree (M.Sc.) mechanical engineer, am earning 3-5 times (at least) LESS money than I would anywhere in the West. Luckily, everything here is super cheap so it kind of evens out. But still, it sucks to be underpaid like this, and that’s exactly the reason why many people are frustrated and want to leave.

What Hungary should do is not discriminate, make ALL NGO’s foreign and domestic publish all funding sources for donations above a certain threshold of say £10000, apply the legislation equally for both foreign and domestic funding, then the EU can’t do anything as it is applied to every single NGO regardless of origin

So . . . why was it that Hungary wanted to be a part of the EU? What exactly does the EU do for Hungary again? First, Hungary should – as a stop-gap – outlaw ALL NGO’s. Who needs them? I would think Hungary could get along very well without them. All of them should go. No problem then about who is funding them. Second, Hungary should “HUXIT” the hell out of this failing organization. At least then they can devise their own version of hell as the British have done, without the interference of the EU. All the EU is good for is limiting the rights of the people of Europe to determine what is best for them. No one serving on the EU’s “board of directors” is even remotely answerable to the people of Europe. And IT SHOWS.

Currently, under the present leadership of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Hungary does not have the problem of muslim migrants.
And with strong Judeo-Christian values – and a robust economy – it is one of the most desirable European countries to live in.

Once upon a time, there was no EU and nation’s governments made laws to fit their citizens’ needs.
Now, the eu wants to tell everyone else how to manage their money, their people, their borders, etc.
People should be able to find out who their enemies are and from where the big bucks are coming…like from soros…this filthy creep wants to bring down Hungary, and is having help from the eu and ec to strongarm that country into doing his bidding, and allow him to fund scum, like himself, to get inside Hungary to bring it down.
