A nationwide referendum on the banning of the burqa/niqab (full facial coverings) takes place in Switzerland on March 7. The burqa and niqab have no place in any society that upholds equality between males and females, and in societies which want to protect national security. As long as loyalty to identity politics, which loyalty hinges on money, remains the top priority, Western values are finished.
The Swiss government argued that the ban would hurt tourism, and would also “be unhelpful for certain groups of women.”
One wonders which women a burqa ban might be unhelpful for. Is this below what the woke Swiss government supports for women?
(Quran 24:31) And tell the believing women to reduce of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
(Quran 33:59) O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused.
The niqab has been banned in China, Tajikistan, Morocco, Latvia, Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Chad, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and France; Chad and Morocco specifically stipulated that they were doing so for security reasons.
“France and Denmark have already banned full face coverings on two grounds: upholding secular values and combating discrimination against women.”
“Swiss government calls on voters to reject nationwide burqa ban in March referendum,” RT, January 19, 2021:
The Swiss Federal Council has urged citizens to reject a move to ban the burqa across Switzerland. It suggested regional restrictions on the garment would be more appropriate, and that a nationwide move might impact tourism.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the federal government of Switzerland warned people of the impact a wide-scale burqa ban might have, notably on tourism from wealthy Gulf nations.
“A nationwide ban would undermine the sovereignty of the cantons, damage tourism, and be unhelpful for certain groups of women,” the statement reads.
“The Federal Council considers the initiative to be unnecessary, since there are very few women in Switzerland who cover their face completely. Most women who do so are tourists, and these spend only a brief time in the country.”
The Swiss people are due to vote in a nationwide referendum on the banning of full facial coverings on March 7.
In a regional poll, the cantons of St. Gallen and Ticino already opted to ban the burqa, and the federal government has recommended that any restrictions on face covering continue in this way, as a whole-country ban is likely to impact some cantons more than others.
A number of areas around Lake Geneva, as well as certain other parts of Switzerland, frequently attract wealthy visitors from the Middle East. It is thought a nationwide ban might deter many Muslim tourists from visiting.
However, the Federal Council also acknowledged that there are challenges in relation to security and proof of identity when women wear the burqa. It said it supported initiatives that would see people fined for refusing to prove who they were when requested, instead of an outright ban on the garment.
The Egerkinger Komitee, a group of like-minded conservatives that includes members of the right-wing Swiss People’s Party and the Federal Democratic Union of Switzerland, proposed the burqa ban. It claims it “provides and organizes resistance against the claims to power of political Islam in Switzerland.”
Around five percent of Switzerland’s 8.6-million population are Muslim, according to official statistics.
France and Denmark have already banned full face coverings on two grounds: upholding secular values and combating discrimination against women….

That’s like saying that it’s not necessary to have a law against murder ‘coz there are just s-o-o-o-o-o few people who indulge in such a pastime. Clowns!

There is almost ZERO RISK that a ban on veils will curb ANY tourism from Muslim countries.
Most Muslim women would be DELIGHTED to take the veil off if they thought it wouldn’t lead to a beating!
Eye witnesses report Muslim women air-travellers RIPPING off the black sacks AS SOON AS the airplane flies out of Muslim airspace.
Rob says
Friend who worked in ME mentioned that women and girls travelling back from Europe would go to the aircraft toilets en masse as they approached Saudi airspace and don the full Islamic outfit. They wore normal female fashion up until that point. Thing is that they saw no reason to wear the full covering in the West. Religious convictions nowhere to be seen. If women in Islamic countries don’t wear the full covering when outside, why do Islamic women want to wear it when living in Western countries. It’s another way of saying ‘up yours’ to their hosts.

“If women in Islamic countries don’t wear the full covering when outside, why do Islamic women want to wear it when living in Western countries…”
It’s a power-play – it tells Westerners “we’re here – so deal with it.”

True, James.
PRCS says
Yes, it is a power play.
Here’s some info about hijab (not just a headscarf):
Is hijab obligatory for a slave woman?

Mount Zion says
Mortimer , you may be right about the zero risk ….. but there is a risk of importing this practice into Switzerland and than having to deal with honour killings . Just how many women have been killed or have gone into hiding for refusing to wear a headscarf or a burka in western countries . I say as a preventive measure it’s Ok to ban a 7th century practice which has no place in a western society .
barbaracvm1 says
The reasons given for wearing a burka is so enslave the woman. She is made to fear all men, because the Muslim male is so weak he can not control his urges.
What they have accomplished is to force women to wear a prison cell.
mortimer says
The Islamic scarf is the ultimate symbol of misogyny today. It’s the prison uniform of Muslim women.
PRCS says
Yet, so many–Muslims and ‘filthy infidels’–still ‘parrot the ‘it’s liberating’ line.
revereridesagain says
May we assume that the well-educated Swiss ARE aware that this part of Quran 24:31 — “that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire” — refers to slaves and eunuchs? May we therefore assume that in addition to hijab the oh-so-very-civilized Swiss approve of slavery and the forced emasculation of men?

Senile Joe just signed the papers to end the ambitions of all little girls who wanted the chance to excel in sports: https://thefederalist.com/2021/01/21/on-day-one-biden-destroys-womens-sports-with-anti-science-executive-order/
Well, Daddy Joe does know a thing or two about sons with weird perversions! And, want to bet down the line he he will also make sure the “right” of Muslim daddies to force their little girls to “cover up” and marry the first cousin who offers the highest payment is also protected?
Infidel says
What if they vote yes: will Switzerland respect their decision?
And how much ‘tourism’ does Switzerland get from the likes of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, et al?
James Lincoln says
According to the feature article:
“…the federal government of Switzerland warned people of the impact a wide-scale burqa ban might have, notably on tourism from wealthy Gulf nations.”
So less of a magnet for muslim tourists.
How can that be a bad thing???
Jaydam says
It can only be a good thing James 😉
Plus,.. ive always supported the idea that all muslim men should be wearing the full burka when they step out of their front door. I would be happy to sit in my deck chair all day and watch the comedy of that scenario 😉
Carol the 1st says
Yes, the men get to happily coast through their surroundings rather discreetly while the women get to be Surrender Flags supposedly waving fawning acknowledgment upon their three-square providers. And who would want to attack such useful, non-muscled, and non-testosterone-fuelled pieces of compliant property? Why these useful ‘flags’ and ‘justifications’ might be someone’s mother!!
These muslimas have learned over centuries to find it safer and more secure to be silent (and get a relished and rare pat on the back for doing so). This past fact of life really shouldn’t provide any justification for a modern Western country to weakly or greedily abandon its principles and treat HALF THE HUMAN RACE as insignificant nonentities when we should be providing a different example. Our ancestors lived and died for a different and more enlightened worldview. Only globalists and muslims seem to delight in that muddy pond Moe said was at the end of the world.
At Biden’s Takeover Ceremony I noticed a muslim couple – the male sat back in a relaxed manner while the muslima (I knew what she represented by the ‘flag’ on her head) leaned forward and eagerly did the bobblehead routine whenever Biden said something that would seem to favor Islam in some way. A woman who knows her priorities! Alas!
PRCS says
Well, then:
To counter potential lost tourism revenue that wealthy visitors from the Middle East bring bring to Switzerland:
Put their own burqa/niqab wearing Muslimas in ‘freak show’ cages to attract ‘filthy infidel’ visitors.

………………..
Hope it passes. How can these fools think that *Burqas* are a good thing?
Roray says
As a Swiss i don’t know yet how i’m going to vote.
I think the issue is a bit more complicated than just a ban the burqa.
I still wonder what will be the implication to it’s interdiction and i don’t mean economic reason, I put moral value far above the economic and to be franc Switzerland as one of the best economy so we can sacrifice some.
But i’m worried on how it will iffluence those girls lives.
Some are forced to wear it, will they be free of it or will they be put in lifetime prison at home?
some may wear it by choice in that case it would be taking away some of their freedom.
In the end the main goal is to save them from Islam… what is the best solution? i don’t know yet
gravenimage says
Roray, if a Muslim woman is dragged to Switzerland and forced to wear a Burqa she is *hardly* free.
And the idea that Swiss people should worry about taking freedom away from women who intentionally wear the Burqa is odd–do you also think you are taking freedom away from Jihadists if they are not allowed to wage violent Jihad in Switzerland?
Allowing Muslims to enforce the Burqa does *not* lead to their freedom–or, most of all, to *our* freedom. The claim that our main concern has to be saving Muslims from Islam is–with all respect–I believe mistaken.
The important thing is to save *us* from Islam–and you can’t do that by letting Musims enforce Shari’ah.
James Lincoln says
gravenimage,
Perfectly stated, my compliments.
And if I may paraphrase the last part for my personal understanding:
Our primary concern is to save *us* from islam.
A secondary concern is to save muslims from islam.

Thanks for your opinion, I’m still not conviced yet. I just want to response to some of your arguments.
you said: ”And the idea ….Jihad in Switzerland?” I think the comparaison is not relevant. Somebody wearing a burqa doesn’t harm anyone. Violent Jihad kills people. what if I, a Swiss male, wanted to wear a burqa for fun i’m taking away this liberty from me…( i know it’s odd to say that but i don’t want to be to quick to take away liberties)
you said:”Allowing Muslims….Musims enforce Shari’ah.” well i Should have said that MY main goal is to save muslim from Islam and if I can lead them to Christiannity it’s even better. When you say ”to save us from islam” i suppose you feel threatned by Islam (pardon me if i’m wrong) but i don’t feel threatned by Islam or jihadis.
I don’t see how letting muslim women wear burqa is letting muslim enforce Sharia. I mean if a muslim apply a rule of Sharia that goes against Swiss laws he will be punished (like cutting hand of a thief) But yeah we shall not let muslim gain to much political power that they could use the swiss democracy to enforce sharia. Do you think that not forbidding burqa would be the beginning of it?
well I still have a long way to be sure what i want to vote.

Roray, the purpose of violent Jihad is to force everyone to submit to Shari’ah law, so they are indeed linked. As for their being nothing harmful in the Burqa, one can make the same argument about the Swastika, as well. The fact is that while many forms of clothing are neutral, many cannot be separated from their meanings, and so it is with the Burqa. It is the very worst of Islamic lands that do not allow women to so much as show their faces. This is *not* liberty.

A worthy goal. But women forced to wear the Burqa are not likely to be able to speak freely to Christians–especially if they are male. And yes–Muslims do indeed force veiling–including the horrifying Burqa.
And yes–I *do* feel threatened by Jihadists raping and murdering us. Is it really the case that you do not? Even if you care nothing for your own life and freedoms. what about those of your loved ones and neighbors?

This is part of normalizing Islamic norms in the free West. And yes–things like the Burqa are very much a part of Shari’ah law. One of the first things the Taliban did on seizing power was to enforce the Burqa. A Taliban spokesman said, “the face of a woman is a source of corruption”. Really, this is *not* freedom.

Hey Thank you for your response. there you have brought argument that i can receive and agree with, thanks for the effort. The comparison with the swastiska is great and will give me something to think about.
About my fear. Yes i’m really not scared. off course something bad could happen i’m not denying that and i would be very sad and bitter if it did happened to my loved once. But as a Christian i know that i will have full restauration in Christ in this life and in the next. (not to brag but so to understand me better, i went to pakistan preach the gospel once).
thanks i really feel that it is a tough choice. and i really want to make the best one

Why is the Swiss government telling people how to vote? That is not how a referendum is run.
Roray says
Well they do anytime we have to vote (and we are a voting on multiple subject around 4 times a year) that’s how our democracy works and no body in switzerland complain about it. we also get to see what the 2 chambers recomend (around 270 elected people) how many vote for/against/blanc. I find it sometimes really helpfull to build my own opinion

What about oppression, are you OK with that. Perhaps men should not be allowed to vote for women to be oppressed. It is not about little old you. but you will contribute to Swiss women being oppressed by the barbarians down the road.

The Swiss government’s position here is absurd. Hopefully the people will stand up for common sense.

”The Swiss government argued that the ban would hurt tourism”
Who the hell goes to Switzerland to see the burqas? Switzerland made a smart move a few years back by approving by 57.5% a referendum to ban minarets. And minarets don’t kill people except those being thrown from them. Hopefully the Swiss people will show a consistency of opinion by banning burqas then eventually the death cult that is Islam.
OLD GUY says
Tell the Swiss government to kiss your royal Swiss ass and vote out the wearing of the burqas.
SegFisch says
I was hoping this law would ban the inane practice of mask-wearing to ineffectually prevent the transmission of viruses, but it does not. Well, durn, in that case I don’t see the point in limiting human behaviour in service to ideology, no matter how ethical it appears to be. Burqa is culture for some; let it be shed at the time that that individual is ready to shed it. Allow Muslim women to have their reasons, some of which you may not understand. I don’t see any comments by Muslim women here. Without their voices, I really cannot ethically make a decision about this topic on their behalf. The choice is available now, why remove choice?
gravenimage says
Do you care that the Burqa is so often enforced, including with violence? It doesn’t sound like it.
