This was broadcast last week on the US-based channel Alhurra, which broadcasts in Arabic to the MENA region. Alhurra is owned by Middle East Broadcasting Networks, a non-profit organization financed by the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), a federal agency funded by the U.S. Congress.
Alhurra broadcasts in Arabic, but it seems there is nobody checking the content. As most of the anchors are Muslims, they let many hate speech segments get out without any problem. The example here took place last week on their popular show “Disagreed Upon,” or in Arabic, “Mukhtalaf Alayh.” The Egyptian anchor Ibrahim Issa hosted an ex-member of the Iraqi parliament, a Shia cleric whose name is Iyad Jamal Al-Din. The discussion was about Macron, France and Muslims. Iyad Jamal Al-Din said: “Macron is not allowed to say that Islam is in crisis, he is just an uncircumcised [that is, filthy or unclean] Christian.” The segment was broadcast including this remark.
On an American channel paid by Americans taxpayers, who are predominantly Christians, the producers and managers allow hate speech against Christians. Ironically, Iyad Jamal Al-Din left Iraq and the UAE to apply for asylum in the US, which is full of “uncircumcised Christians.”
