“He was finally sentenced to six months suspended prison sentence and 300 euros [$354] in damages to each of the civil parties.”
Would his sentence have been so light if he had not been a Muslim migrant? Or is this yet another example of European officials downplaying crimes by migrants so as not to stoke opposition to mass Muslim migration? What do you think?
“Rennes: sentenced for assaulting caregivers and threatening to return to kill them Kalashnikov,” translated from “Rennes: condamné pour avoir agressé des soignants et menacé de revenir les tuer à la Kalachnikov,” by Timothée L’Angevin, Actu, November 10, 2020 (thanks to Breitbart):
” It’s getting worse.” Anthonin and Valentin, two nurses from the emergency rooms of the Rennes University Hospital, are seeing working conditions deteriorate, and above all, are increasingly victims of violence from patients.
“Daily, there are insults, spitting, threats … it even becomes surprising when nothing happens one day in the week”, reveals Valentin, 28, and a caregiver for four years.
Outrages, death threats and violence
Both have seen the situation worsen in recent months and especially since October 26, 2019, when they were attacked, like four other of their colleagues, by a young man of 19 years.
The latter, an Afghan national, was tried on Tuesday, November 10 by the Rennes Criminal Court, for contempt, death threats and violence without ITT on persons entrusted with a public service mission.
On the morning of the incident, the respondent was taken to the emergency room by the gendarmes. Drunk, he had just been arrested in Liffré in front of a nightclub, a bottle of alcohol in his hand and a brass knuckle in his pocket. Arrived at the emergency room, he was “very agitated and aggressive” towards caregivers, insists the president of the court.
“He even tried to hit a doctor who was eight months pregnant”
“He tried to hit us several times, threatened us with death, spat on us,” recalls Anthonin, in his forties and already with 16 years of service.
It took “six to seven” people, including security guards, to finally overpower the defendant and tie him to a stretcher. “He even tried to hit a doctor who was eight months pregnant,” adds Valentin. And he threatened to come back and kill us with a Kalashnikov. ”
Six months suspended sentence
This is not a “trivial case of drunkenness”, points out the prosecutor. “These words can be carried out, the news reminds us. ”
Absent from the hearing, the defendant, without a criminal record, had an alcohol level of 2.08 grams per liter of blood at the time of the facts. In police custody, he recognized the insults and threats, but not the violence. He justified his actions because he was “tied up” and “tried to take his pants off”.
He was finally sentenced to six months suspended prison sentence and 300 euros [$354] in damages to each of the civil parties.
“In emergencies, we recover all people in distress, alcoholic, uneducated”
For caregivers, this condemnation is a good thing. But it will not come to change their daily life. “Emergencies have become a dumping ground, regrets Anthonin. We recover all the people in distress, alcoholic, without education, who let off steam on us. ”
The latter is already three complaints filed since June. “And we will continue to systematically bring these cases to justice.”
