“The alleged perpetrator has been known to the Federal Intelligence Service (NDB) since 2017. The suspect is already involved as a suspect in criminal proceedings by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.”
But he was still running around loose.
“The 26-year-old also had a psychological problem.”
Of course. What jihadi doesn’t?
“Man killed with knife – suspect linked with Islamists,” translated from “Mann mit Messer getötet – Verdächtiger mit Islamisten vernetzt,” by Sven Forster, 20 Minuten, September 14, 2020 (thanks to Medforth):
A 29-year-old Portuguese man was attacked with a knife on Saturday evening in Morges VD and fatally injured. Now the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (BA) has taken over the investigation. It does not rule out a terrorist motive for the act.
As stated in a message, the alleged perpetrator has been known to the Federal Intelligence Service (NDB) since 2017. The suspect is already involved as a suspect in criminal proceedings by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, which are being conducted within the framework of the criminal procedural instruments available by law, according to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office. The BA announces that no further information will be given at the current time of the investigation.
As the “SRF” reports, the alleged perpetrator is said to be a well-known Islamist from the greater Lausanne area. The man is said to be 26 years old, have a Swiss passport and come from a Turkish family. The suspect is said to be in contact with several Islamists.
He had therefore tried in the spring of 2019 in western Switzerland to torch a gas station. According to SRF research, he was placed in custody. This was extended several times, but ended this summer. According to SRF research, the 26-year-old also had a psychological problem. Apparently, after the accused was released from prison in July, admission to a psychiatric clinic was planned. Why he was not admitted is still unclear.
Close cooperation between the authorities
The police were informed on Saturday evening around 9:20 p.m. that a person had been attacked with a knife. Despite the rapid arrival of the rescue workers, the 29-year-old succumbed to his injuries. The alleged perpetrator fled, but was arrested on Sunday in Renens VD.
The act took place in front of a restaurant. The owner of the shop spoke to 20 minutes. The victim sat with eleven people at a table on the terrace. The group was just eating. “A guy came into the store with a knife and stabbed a customer in the back,” says the owner.
The victim fell on the floor. The rescue workers who were immediately deployed could no longer save the man. The shocked restaurant owner continues: “He died on the terrace.” The victim was a regular guest in the restaurant. “He was very nice and personable.”
“Man in black with a hood”
According to “24 Heures” an eyewitness described the scene: “A woman’s screams were heard.” The witness continued: “We thought it was an attack or a robbery. But suddenly we saw the man on the floor.” The police officers had arrived at the same time as the ambulance, and nothing more could be done for the man. “The victim lost an enormous amount of blood. I am still shaken,” said the witness. Another witness describes the attacker as “a man dressed in black and wearing a hood”.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office (BA) has taken over the investigation in the meantime. The background is now being clarified. As part of the BA’s current investigations, there is close cooperation with the responsible authorities of the canton of Vaud, the FIS and fedpol.
