Ahmad Al-Shahrouri’s pungent analysis is interesting, but raises the question: if this is true, why do Muslims contract the coronavirus? He is actually making an extended pitch for Sharia obedience, one that Islamic apologists in the West have been making recently as well: Islam long ago prescribed masks and forbade touching, you see, so it was way out front on the hygiene necessary to prevent this plague. The hope is that the coronavirus crisis will lead Westerners to convert. And in some circles, it likely will. Those who convert will not become aware until later that the requirements to wage jihad against unbelievers are part of Sharia as much as the washing rules.

Jordanian Islamic scholar Ahmad Al-Shahrouri said in a March 29, 2020 show on Yarmouk TV (Jordan) that people in the West lack purity and cleanliness, and he gave the example that they do not wash filth from their behinds with water after using the restroom like Muslims do. He explained that this is why Westerners are plagued with viruses and diseases and that this is the reason there has been a shortage of toilet paper in the West in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Recalling a time when his “head almost exploded” from the stench of two Westerners he sat between on a plane, Al-Shahrouri said that Muslims should praise Allah for requiring them to perform ablution. Furthermore, he said that Westerners’ poor hygiene is why France is known for producing luxurious perfumes that mask people’s filth, foulness, and odors.
Ahmad Al-Shahrouri: “I mentioned the West so that we can talk about the purity and cleanliness that Westerners lack so much. When you go into their restrooms, you can’t find a drop of water with which to wash your behind. This is why when one of us travels on a plane or whatever, he takes some water with him to the lavatories, so he can use it to wash himself. Currently, they have run out of toilet paper in their markets, because they do not use water! They are plagued by these diseases, these microbes, and these viruses because they do not clean their filth enough. Believe me when I tell you that I once traveled to a foreign country and I had a middle seat on the plane. I sat between two citizens from the country I was traveling to. Believe me… For over two hours – it was a domestic flight… For over two hours, my head almost exploded from the stench that filled my nose! I couldn’t believe it when the flight was finally over and I could leave me seat. Why is France famous for producing the most luxurious perfumes? It is because they do not use water. They use perfumes to get rid of the filth and foulness of their bodies, and of the odors that stick to them. Oh Muslim, you should praise Allah for making you perform ablution.”
