German authorities committed him to the psych ward in the first place because they assume that Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance, and so a Muslim screaming “Allahu akbar” and brawling with cops outside a synagogue must be crazy, because what else could he possibly be? Jihad? Islamic antisemitism? What are those things?
“Fighting in front of the Bielefeld synagogue – perpetrators flee,” translated from “Rangelei vor Bielefelder Synagoge – Täter flieht,” Westfalen-Blatt, March 5, 2020 (thanks to Medforth Blog):
Bielefeld (WB / sas / ef). A 53-year-old man was initially taken into custody in front of the Bielefeld synagogue on Thursday afternoon. He had shouted “Allahu akbar” during a fight with police officers – Allah is great [actually, “Allah is greater” — ed.] – and easily injured a policewoman. In the evening, he escaped from the psychiatric ward.
The man had gone for a walk on the Detmolder Straße at around 4.30 p.m. Security officers at the Jewish synagogue approached him and tried to persuade him to walk on the sidewalk.
Thereupon, according to a police spokesman, the man freaked out, flailed around and tried to flee. Several colleagues did their best to wrestle him to the ground. The man continued to kick out repeatedly and called out “Allahu akbar” (“God is great”) [actually, “Allah is greater” — ed.]. He is also said to have had stones with him.
The investigation of the 53-year-old revealed that he is known to the police. Since there was evidence of mental confusion, he was taken to the psychiatric ward. However, he escaped from there a few hours later. A police spokesman: “As things stand, we don’t assume that his behavior had anything to do with the synagogue. He was the wrong man in the wrong place.”
