Sad and tragic:

The cause for the “state of war” in once peaceful Brussels is not identified in the Breitbart article. But its cause is clear. Jihadists took advantage of globalist open-door immigration policies and infiltrated refugee streams. The New York Times reported about Brussels:

Donald J. Trump called the Belgian capital “a hellhole,” while Lubomir Zaoralek, the foreign minister of the Czech Republic, recently cited the city to explain why his and other Eastern European countries had steadfastly resisted a plan by the European Union to spread Syrian and other Muslim refugees around the Continent under a quota system.
“All the people in the Czech Republic and in other countries see what happened in Molenbeek,” he told a security conference in Slovakia over the weekend, referring to the Brussels borough where many of those involved in the attacks in Paris on Nov. 13 and in Brussels on March 22 grew up.”
Public sector union police SLFP representative Eric Labourdette commented about the state of Brussels:
“The politicians would not have taken action if they did not fear incidents. But removing the bins from the streets to avoid fires is of no use. And the next step, what will it be? Will we remove the cars, the bus shelters? “
Politicians should be managing their borders to prevent the chaos Brussels now finds itself in. While accusations fly, the reality about the politicians is that they created a “hellhole” for emergency services and citizens, and the situation will only get worse. They opened their borders indiscriminately. But note that it isn’t the politicians who may be kissing their wives and children goodbye as they go for war duty against Islamic supremacist thugs; it’s emergency service personnel and, of course, the public that must face the dangers.
And here is an additional dilemma that Western countries face, thanks again to globalists who are playing Russian roulette with the lives of their citizens, paid for by their tax dollars:
“You can bomb Raqqa, and you may consider that to be war, but you’re not going to bomb Molenbeek or Schaerbeek or St.-Denis, unless you’re ready for civil war,” said François Heisbourg, president of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, referring to heavily Muslim areas of Brussels and Paris.

While the measures are designed to protect firefighters in the line of duty, not all are happy about the need for police protection.
Public sector union SLFP representative Eric Labourdette commented on the move, saying: “We are going to have to escort firefighters who are going to rescue people. Is that normal? Not at all! We are in Belgium, not in a state of war! Politicians must, at some point, ask how we are arriving at such a situation, having to escort our rescuers.”

The real problem is the lax approach to the behaviour of these young people who, last year, did not hesitate to trash everything in their path and to take it to the emergency services,” he added.
Labourdette went on to add that firefighters had been recently trained on how to react against aggression from the public but questioned why they should have to in the first place. “‘Is it normal to be here?’ I ask our politicians again. Soon, we will have to intervene to save lives while wearing bulletproof vests,” he said…..
