Peter King is an Islamophobe who held McCarthyite hearings targeting American Muslims, said “there are too many mosques in this country” and blamed Eric Garner for his own death at the hands of police.

Gracious as ever, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) kicks Peter King on the way out the door for hearings almost nine years ago that were carefully sanitized and toothless so as not to offend Muslims. Even those hearings gets him called an “Islamophobe” by Omar, which proves a point I have made many times: it doesn’t matter how careful and restrained you are. It doesn’t matter how often you insist that not all Muslims are involved in jihad activity, or how many moderates you parade before the cameras (King had the moderate, Zuhdi Jasser, who was pretty much the only such spokesman then and is one of a handful now, and — of all people — Keith Ellison, who hijacked and overwhelmed the hearings with victimhood histrionics). It doesn’t matter how often you repeat that Islam is a religion of peace, and ignore or downplay all evidence to the contrary. If you come out against jihad terror and suggest that some Muslims in the United States might not be 100% loyal patriotic Americans, you will be tarred and defamed as an “Islamophobe.” That’s the legacy of Peter King.
