Somali migrant Abdulahi Hasan Sharif, “who ran down a Canadian police officer with a truck and then stabbed him repeatedly was found guilty,” but of attempted murder, not terrorism, despite an Islamic State flag being discovered in his truck. This is not surprising in Canada. Under the former Liberal so-called safety minister Ralph Goodale (who lost his seat in the recent Federal Election), Canada removed all references to “Islamist extremism” from law enforcement material, thereby removing necessary tracking systems to identify jihadists, who are motivated entirely by their religious zeal. According to a Global News report discussing Canada’s scrapping of references to “Islamist extremism”:
The so-called Islamic State, Al Qaeda and their regional affiliates use terrorism to promote their versions of Sunni Islamist extremist ideology, while Hezbollah is a Shia extremist group. But Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale told reporters Thursday he wanted the terrorist threat report to use language that “did not impugn or condemn an entire religion.”
Meanwhile, Canada is very careful to make sure that the word “Islamophobia” is given central focus.
In the case of Somali immigrant Abdulahi Hasan Sharif, he was treated like a regular Canadian criminal, even though “police said they found a flag of the Islamic State militant group in the truck driven by Sharif”; no charges of terrorism were filed.
The news about Sharif, added to prior news which reflects the direction that Canada is taking with respect to the jihad threat, is worrying.

Canada also plans to fling the door open to immigration as it “leads the charge” on the UN Migration Pact (even though jihadists have long infiltrated refugee streams); its immigration minister Ahmed Hussen defended a 2017 bill to reinstate the citizenship of convicted terrorists. Hussen also reiterated during the summer that he plans to “massively ramp up“ refugee intake. Meanwhile, Justin Trudeau has rolled out the welcome mat to returning Islamic State jihadis.

(Reuters) – A Somali immigrant who ran down a Canadian police officer with a truck and then stabbed him repeatedly was found guilty on Friday of attempted murder, the Crown prosecutor’s office said.
Abdulahi Hasan Sharif, 32, had denied the charges in connection with the incident in Edmonton, Alberta, on Sept. 30, 2017, when authorities say he attacked the officer then struck four pedestrians while trying to flee in a U-Haul truck.
Police said they found a flag of the Islamic State militant group in the truck driven by Sharif, but no charges of terrorism were filed. He is due to be sentenced on 11 offenses, including five counts of attempted murder, on Dec. 12-13.
All his victims suffered broken bones and head injuries, while the policeman – Constable Mike Chernyk – was also stabbed in the chest and neck, authorities said.
According to U.S. officials, Sharif spent several months in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement before being deported from the United States in 2011.
The Canadian government said Sharif was given refugee status the following year after he made a claim at the border.
During the trial that concluded on Friday, Sharif declined legal representation or to represent himself in court, said Greg Lazin, an amicus lawyer who was present for the case.
“Every opportunity was given to Mr. Sharif to avail himself of the (legal) safeguards. The court can do no more than that,” Lazin told reporters outside the Edmonton courthouse.
