They see themselves as jihad warriors for Allah.
In reference to Islamic State jihadists, Calgary imam Syed Soharwardy, the head of the Calgary-based Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, states:

They are organizing lectures and seminars, but nobody will put a sign up that says “I am recruiting for al Qaeda or ISIL or ISIS.” Nobody will come because they know they will be caught. Soharwardy believes that Sharia is the answer everywhere, yet he warns of the Islamic State jihadi threat. But according to the clueless Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, returning Islamic State fighters can be “an extraordinarily powerful voice” in Canada.
Trudeau is planning to welcome more than 1,000,000 new migrants in the next three years. As Robert Spencer pointed out:
The population of Canada is 36.71 million. The population of the United States is 325.7 million. So this would be comparable to the U.S. bringing in 8,700,000 immigrants, roughly the entire population of the state of Virginia.

Another alleged Canadian ISIS member has been captured in northern Syria, according to local Kurdish forces, who posted a video of the man.
In the brief video, the man identified himself as Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed and said he was an Ethiopian-Canadian.
Kurdish forces said he was arrested by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in Deir al-Zour, the last ISIS stronghold in Syria.
With his capture, the number of Canadians known to be in the custody of Kurdish forces is now four men, three women and seven children.
