The Indian government has criminalized the Sharia practice of Triple Talaq. The Triple Talaq is the process by which a Muslim man divorces his wife simply by reciting thrice: “I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you.”
The criminalization of the Triple Talaq is being met with stiff resistance from Islamic authorities….
Maulana Mahmood Madani, general secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind coming out strongly to say that “no Government has the mandate to interfere in religious matters.”
He also accused the Indian government of “undermining the popular sentiments of Muslims” (aka “Islamophobia”). Madani continued:
Any law or ordinance to this effect will not be acceptable to the Muslim community at any cost. The Muslims are religiously duty bound to adhere to Shariah at all and will keep doing so.
The Western world remains willfully blind about the inferiority of women that is enshrined in Islamic law.

NEW DELHI: As it prepares to move court against the government’s ordinance making instant triple talaq punishable, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board is all set to convene a meeting of its top brass shortly to firm up its position on issues ranging from instant talaq punishable and concerns around polygamy.
The AIMPLB is likely to meet sometime next week on the matter and finalise the future course of action. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Maulana Mahmood Madani, general secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind coming out strongly to say that “no Government has the mandate to interfere in religious matters.” Madani termed the government’s move as “hostile attitude, tyrannical suppression of the democratic process and undermining the popular sentiments of the Muslims.” “The pieces of recommendations given by the religious fraternity, Shariah expert organizations have also been completely brushed aside,” he alleged.
Madani said that according to the Constitution of India, both the Judiciary and the Parliament do not have any mandate to interfere in the religious affairs of the Muslim community. “Therefore, any law or ordinance to this effect will not be acceptable to the Muslim community at any cost. The Muslims are religiously duty bound to adhere to Shariah at all and will keep doing so,” he added….
