Nida Khan’s crime? She opposes the Islamic triple talaq, that is, the Qur’an-sanctioned practice of allowing a man to divorce his wife simply by saying “You are divorced.” If he says it three times, he cannot take her back unless she marries another man, consummates the marriage, and is divorced by her new husband: “Divorce is twice. Then, either keep her in an acceptable manner or release her with good treatment….And if he has divorced her for the third time, then she is not lawful to him afterward until she marries a husband other than him. And if the latter husband divorces her, there is no blame upon the woman and her former husband for returning to each other if they think that they can keep the limits of Allah. These are the limits of Allah, which He makes clear to a people who know. (Qur’an 2:229-230)

A fresh fatwa has been issued against social activist Nida Khan, who had come out in support of halala and instant triple talaq victims in Bareilly district. The fatwa announces a cash reward of Rs 11,786 for anyone who chops off her hair.
Speaking to India Today, Nida said “A fresh fatwa issued against me by All India Faizan-E-Madina Council says that anyone who chops my hair will be given a cash reward of Rs 11,786. I have also been threatened to attack with stones and have been told to leave the country within 3 days.”
The group issuing fatwa has also pasted posters in various localities of the district telling people to boycott Nida and added that she has been expelled from the Muslim community.
Nida Khan runs an NGO in Bareilly which is helping both triple talaq and halala victims in rehabilitation.
Nida, who got married to Ahmed Raza Khan, was allegedly harassed by her in-laws for dowry before being given instant triple talaq. She was also forced to have nikah halala with her father-in-law….
