Ever the victim, no matter what.
“Too long in prison: Belt-beater Knaan S. demands compensation,” translated from “Wegen zu langer U-Haft: Gürtelschläger Knaan S. verlangt Entschädigung,” Focus, July 6, 2018 (thanks to Searchlight Germany):
The belt-beater of Prenzlauer Berg, Knaan S., required imprisonment after his conviction, Justice Lisa Jani informed the COURIER on request. The 19-year-old Syrian had been sentenced to four weeks of juvenile detention in June for offending and belting a kippah-wearing Israeli.
Knaan S. was released shortly after the verdict, because his sentence was considered served because of pre-trial detention. However, the young Syrian was in custody from 19 April to 25 June, more than ten weeks in all. For the time beyond the four weeks of detention he now demands compensation. If this is granted, Knaan S. would have to be paid 25 euros per too much day of custody, judicial spokeswoman Jani said.
The teenager also filed an appeal against the verdict. In the process, he admitted the blows with the belt, but in his closing remarks expressed regret for the act. He denied anti-Semitic motives. He felt justified, because he was first insulted. He also took drugs. The young Israeli, on the other hand, said he had not exchanged a word with the attacker.
