Police in Paris are advising the public to stay away from the Champs-Elysées on Monday afternoon after a vehicle reportedly exploded after crashing into a police van.
French police launched a major security operation on the famous Champs-Elysées avenue in the west of Paris on Monday afternoon and advised members of the public to avoid the area.
Police sources have told French media that a car collided with a van carrying gendarmes (French military police) before exploding into flames.
Police sources have told French media they believe the act was deliberate and anti-terrorist polcie [sic] have been called in to take charge of the investigation.
There were no casualties reported and witnesses said a man, believed to be the driver, was being held on the ground by police. Sources said he was armed….
