Why not? Zaghba’s mother is assuming that Islam teaches peace, and so her son’s devoutness in Islam would therefore have had nothing to do with his jihad attack. Western intelligence and law enforcement authorities often make the same assumption, thereby cutting themselves off from one good way to identify potential jihad terrorists. A sudden increase in devout observance of Islam is not always an indicator of interest in jihad, but to discount it out of hand is politically correct foolishness.
