Death toll climbs as camp battle hots up in north Lebanon

"The army continues to close in on the armed elements ... which are firing rockets blindly at neighbouring villages..." -- just as Hizballah did last year, firing rockets indiscriminately into northern Israel.

From AFP (thanks to DFS):

NAHR AL-BARED, Lebanon : The Lebanese army pounded positions of rocket-firing Islamists in heavy clashes around a refugee camp on Friday, as the military's death toll neared 100 almost eight weeks into a bloody showdown.

Fatah al-Islam militants fired 11 Katyusha-type rockets, most of which crashed in fields several kilometres (miles) to the northeast and south of Nahr al-Bared refugee camp, without causing casualties, the army said.

Two more soldiers were killed in the latest clashes, and another died of wounds from fierce fighting on Thursday, an army spokesman said, raising to nine its losses in two days.

While artillery and tanks blasted the camp, the military said elite troops on the ground seized control of a number of buildings and Islamist positions, while army engineers cleared mines and demolished barriers.

"The army continues to close in on the armed elements ... which are firing rockets blindly at neighbouring villages, killing a civilian (on Thursday) and wounding several others," a statement said.

"The terrorists continue to refuse to surrender and continue their inhuman behaviour by preventing members of their families from leaving the camp," according to the army.

A Palestinian source at nearby Beddawi camp, however, quoted in The Daily Star newspaper on Friday, said earlier it was the wives of the fighters who had refused to evacuate.

"The wives said they want to die with their husbands," according to the source involved in arranging evacuations.

The fighting erupted on May 20 when the Islamist militants launched a string of attacks on soldiers, killing 27 of them around the Palestinian refugee camp and in the nearby northern port city of Tripoli, the army says.

The government has vowed to wipe out Fatah al-Islam, a shadowy band of Arab Islamist fighters inspired by Al-Qaeda, while Palestinian Muslim clerics have failed in mediation efforts.

They failed? Why? Weren't they able to convince Fatah al-Islam that the Qur'an actually teaches peace?

The latest deaths have brought to at least 184 the number of people killed, including 95 soldiers and at least 68 Islamists, according to an AFP toll compiled from official sources and reports....

About 80 remaining Fatah al-Islam fighters are being supported by dozens of pro-Syrian Palestinian militants, according to a Palestinian source, citing the mainstream Palestinian activists who were evacuated....

Prime Minister Fuad Siniora has called for the army, as Lebanon marks the first anniversary of the devastating Israel-Hezbollah war, to "put a final end" to the Fatah al-Islam "terrorists"....

Just as the islamists planned...
watch it get a lot hotter...

-by next Monday in conjunction with UN reports, -causing justifiable backlash by Lebanese against syrians for their murders of Lebanese leaders, -giving syria their own bizarre cause for activating hezbollah proxies once again into war and
-(they hope) a pro-islamist coup d`etat...and
if all goes according to their long-known and well-orchestrated plans,
-an all-out war with Israel, causing
-a total conflagration spanning the entire middle east, including, but not limited to,
iraq, iran, the gulf states (iran just lay claim to bahrain http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/WTARC/2007/me_iran_07_13.asp
1938 alert, sudetenland, anyone?),
and eventually dragging regional, and possibly world powers, into the conflict...no later than first week of September, when the pro-syrian president of Lebanons tenure expires (how timely).

While I'm sure cooler world power heads will prevail outside the box, this is what the munchkin's plans are...they're not a state secret, and haven't exactly been concealed very well.
Welcome to Mahmoud's Madhouse of "mahdi"-Mayhem.

Reminds me of a radio skit tune...
"Here comes armageddon,
we're gonna have some fun!
Here comes armageddon-
everybody grab your gun!"

The calm and reserved manner in which this is reported by the MSM today is revealing and instructive.

Compared with the apocalyptic hysteria that followed the comparable actions by Israel, in its own defense, one year ago today.

Muslims killing Muslims. A minor incident.

Israelis preserving their lives. WARCRIMES!

The press are such pimps and tools.

Surround the camp.

Leaflet the place allowing 48 hours for anyone to leave (however check the burkas)

Then level the whole camp till nothing alive is left in it.

The dhimmi Eurowimps will be happy to rebuild the place.

But then every last "palestinean" should be shuttled off to Jordan or Syria.

""The terrorists continue to refuse to surrender and continue their inhuman behaviour by preventing members of their families from leaving the camp"

But, but, but Rosie O'Donnell says that they are all moms and dads just like we are... and that Christians are the ones who are more dangerous!

A co-worker told me that their Daughter was in a Media/Journalism course at School and the Teacher handed out a list of News Papers that are banned from being cited during research project
for "Bias in the Media" assignments.

How ironic that an Assignment for a Student that is intended to enlighten them about the media bias has the premis set out to be Bias for what sources the students can use , and I DON'T need to mention which opinion slant the banned News Papers held for the Editor's or Columnists.

The fact that our Schools seem to exalt Al Gore and Michael Moore to the status of Gods for their bias Mock-u-mentary's for the viewing by the Useful-Idiots , this should be a wake-up call that the Educational System is failing and kids are losing the skill of critical thinking which prompts the annoying question from your children that is Why? for every time you try to answer the previous question.

Again, I hate to obscure the issue with facts, but what started this was a botched bank robbery. This is not the fight for freedom of the "Palestinian" people, this is about holed-up thieves that happen to be so self-absorbed that they will let others die than be responsible for their crimes. If those innocents include their spouses, it's fine with them one would presume. But this is not about jihad, this is not about the allah only Mohammad could hear, and it certainly isn't about the inhabitants of these camps.
Personally I would love to see them taken alive, because it would a) spare the wanton lose of life and b) allow the Lebanese government to find out who was behind this horrible little fiasco. If they were taken alive, I wonder if you would see the Syrian hit teams working overtime trying to take the robbers out before they had a chance to sing...
Wait a minute, if this line of thinking holds true, then just about everybody wants these poor buggers dead. The Lebanese army, (to exact revenge), The Syrians and Hisbullah, (to shut them up), the "Palestinians" in the camps, (so they can go home). Yes, me thinks these lads are screwed.
Shalom,
Theosebes

Every day during the recent Israeli Hizbollah war in Lebanon there were reports of all the many children that the Israeli shellings had killed.

There were gruesome photos of dead children. Indeed, according to the pictures, some of the children had been killed two and three times.

It is truly remarkable, now that Muslims are fighting Muslims, with much higher casualties than that caused by Israel, that no children have been killed.
