The full 95-page Freedom House report, "Saudi publications on Hate Ideology Fill American Mosques," is now available here in pdf form.
Read it all. The venom directed toward Christians, Jews, Muslims deemed not Islamic enough, and America is breathtaking. There is also a healthy helping of jihad ideology and material advising the oppression of women. And remember, this material is being spread in mosques all over the United States: in 1999, the Naqshbandi Sufi Sheikh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani testified before a State Department open forum that eighty percent of American mosques had extremist leadership. His assertion has never been convincingly refuted.

Among the key findings of the report:
* Various Saudi government publications gathered for the study, most of which are in Arabic, assert it is a religious obligation for Muslims to hate Christians and Jews and warn against imitating, befriending, or helping them in any way or taking part in their festivities and celebrations;
* The documents promote contempt for the United States because it is ruled by legislated civil law rather than by totalitarian Wahhabi-style Islamic law. They condemn democracy as un-Islamic;
* The documents stress that when Muslims are in the lands of the unbelievers, they must behave as if on a mission behind enemy lines. Either they are there to acquire new knowledge and make money to be later employed in the jihad against the infidels, or they are there to proselytize the infidels until at least some convert to Islam.
Any other reason for lingering among the unbelievers in their lands is illegitimate, and unless a Muslim leaves as quickly as possible, he or she is not a true Muslim and so too must be condemned. For example, a document in the collection for the "Immigrant Muslim" bears the words "Greetings from the Cultural Attache in Washington, D.C." of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia, and is published by the government of Saudi Arabia.
In an authoritative religious voice, it gives detailed instructions on how to "hate" the Christian and Jew: Never greet them first. Never congratulate the infidel on his holiday. Never imitate the infidel. Do not become a naturalized citizen of the United States. Do not wear a graduation gown because this imitates the infidel;
* Other Muslims, especially those who advocate tolerance, are condemned as infidels. The opening fatwa in one Saudi embassy-distributed book, published by the Saudi Air Force, responds to a question about a Muslim preacher in a European mosque who taught that it is not right to condemn Jews and Christians as infidels. The Saudi state cleric's reply rebukes the Muslim cleric: "He who casts doubts about their infidelity leaves no doubt about his." Since, under Saudi law, "apostates' from Islam can be sentenced to death, this is an implied death threat against the tolerant Muslim imam, as well as an incitement to vigilante violence;
* Sufi and Shiite Muslims are viciously condemned;
* For a Muslim who fails to uphold the Saudi Wahhabi sect's sexual mores [i.e. through homosexual activity or heterosexual activity outside of marriage], the edicts published by the Saudi government's Ministry of Islamic Affairs and found in American mosques advise "it would be lawful for Muslims to spill his blood and to take his money";
* Regarding those who convert out of Islam, the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs explicitly asserts, they "should be killed";
* Saudi textbooks and other publications in the collection, propagate a Nazi-like hatred for Jews, treat the forged Protocols of the Elders of Zion as historical fact, and avow that the Muslim's duty is to eliminate the state of Israel;
* Regarding women, the Saudi publications instruct that they should be veiled, segregated from men and barred from certain employment and roles;
The report states: "While the government of Saudi Arabia claims to be 'updating' or reforming its textbooks and study materials within the kingdom, its publications propagating an ideology of hatred remain plentiful in some prominent American mosques and Islamic centers, and continue to be a principal resource available to students of Islam within the United States."

I would like to see the U.S. congress form a congressional committee to study this anti-American intrusion into our country.
It threatens to undermine the very core of our foundations as rooted in the U.S. Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence as the intrusion of communism, and Nazism did in the twentieth century.
We cannot continue to pretend that Saudia Arabia is our friend for the sake of their oil where Waahabism was founded over 200 years ago. Waahabism has allready hijacked Mecca and those of us who are learning more and more about Islam can easily understand that the spokesmen for sadia Arabia are constantly practicing taqiya (deception) against us when ever they are confronted with this intrusion.

Hey, StopNewAge,
I think you would be better off educating about the evils/foolishness/sources of the NewAge phenomena than protecting islam because it also is an enemy of NewAge.
Check out this link, this guy is anti-NewAge too, and also involved in the study of Chaos Theory.
I am not necessarily in agreement with everything he says,but I consider most of it to be reasonable.--http://newtotalitarians.com/EnemiesWithinPartII.html
" So, what is the answer? Is Islam a peaceful religion? Will the Islamic diaspora in America be able to put its citizenship above the mandates of its religion? The answer, despite all of the public relations announcements to the contrary, is in the negative. Roberto de Mattei, writing on 'Lepanto: A Category of the Spirit,' in the April 2002 issue of Chronicles writes, "To reduce radical Islamism to terrorism or to the deliriums of a psychotic...is to insult both Islam and our own intelligence. Radical Islam is an interpretation that is coherent and widely spread through the world of Islam. It may not be the majority opinion, but it is strong precisely because it is radical and coherent, and it will, therefore, expand within Islam, which even in its modern version has always had as its goal - derived from the Koran - the subjugation of the entire world to the word of Allah. This is a teaching that characterizes all Islam. Islamic terrorism is simply a strategic variant of the broader project of conquest whose ultimate goal is the Islamicization of our society."

Thank you, Robert, Hugh, & everyone at Jihad & Dhimmi Watch for your noble pursuit to educate the world on all aspects of Islam. Reading the stories & posts on this website helped me to better understand Islam.
Saudi Arabian Wahhabism is all consuming, cult-like, and a part of every aspect of your life.
Their religion employs a tireless procedure, to brainwash their global fellowship into believing they are more special then others, and to indoctrinate additional susceptible minds, whenever & wherever they get the opportunity. Once inducted, cult members happily trade off their common sense and accept the dogmatic agenda.
A ceaseless global awareness of the aspirations & dangers of the Wahhabi cult is the best deterrent, to prevent the world from accepting any of the Saudi’s short & long-term goal of spreading Wahhabism, & the fourteen hundred year Islamic conquest of the world.
at January 29, 2005 12:25 PM
It is one thing to consider the energy needs of the country by continuing to do business with the Saudis in the oil markets. It is quite another to continue to accommodate their transparent efforts to infiltrate, indoctrinate, and subvert our society with seditious propaganda and to fund or appropriate institutions with which to disseminate this poison. I am not a lawyer but it is difficult for me to believe that the Justice or State Department, if so instructed, could not devise an effective antidote in the form of, say the requirement for these mosques, madrassas, and university departments to register as agents of a foreign government. Clearly, they are funded by, doing the bidding of, and attempting to spread the influence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the United States. By exposing them as foreign agents, their activities would come under much closer scrutiny and politicians and other civil and religious leaders -- rather than attending interfaith gatherings and sensitivity trainings -- would be more circumspect about accommodating their agenda in the community.

saw a copy of the koran at 1/2 price book store for a grand total of $3.89. might be good to have one in hand for what we are about to embark on.
how much of my tax money is used to support this?

otBAGHDAD, Iraq -- A rocket or mortar hit the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad late Saturday on the eve of Iraq's landmark elections, killing two people and wounding four, a U.S. Embassy official said.
One round fell into the Embassy's compound in the heavily fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The U.S. military said an explosion at the site was being investigated.
Embassy spokesman Bob Callahan confirmed the embassy had been hit in an attack and said there appeared to have been casualties, but could give no details.
The second official then confirmed that two had been killed and four injured.

I know there was similar stuff going on before the Afghan election. Not to the same extent I should think, but I don't seem to recall the MSM covering much of it at all. Does anyone know how Extensive the threats/bombings/assassinations were before the Afghan election? If we hadn't been in Iraq by that time, would those have received the kind of coverage these are now?

Why do these reports always try to reduce this to a phenomena that is limited to Wahabbism? Of all the terrorists announcements that I can remember, none of the groups identified themselves specifically as Wahabbis, or proclaim some denouncement against non-Wahabbis. In fact as far as I can tell, the only groups that declare these terrorsits as Wahabbis are non-Muslim groups. I could imagine a Jeff Foxworthy comdey concert with material including "You might be a Wahabbi if..." lines.
This report seems to conclude the importance of Wahabbism to terrorism because "Within worldwide Sunni Islam, followers of Wahhabism and other hardline or salafist (literally translated as venerable predecessors) movements are a distinct minority. This is evident from the millions of Muslims who have chosen to make America their
home and are upstanding, law-abiding citizens and neighbors." Yet this report doesn't record any surveys of the ideology held by Muslims. Moreover, they go on to tell us that "The documents stress that when Muslims are in the lands of the unbelievers, they must behave as if on a mission behind enemy lines. Either they are there to acquire new knowledge and make money to be later employed in the jihad against the infidels, or they are there to proselytize the infidels until at least some convert to Islam." So which is it? Are they peaceful because they are not Wahabbis, or are they peaceful because they are "behind enemy lines."
Also these reports never clearly identify what makes Wahabbism so critical to the phenonmena of Islamic terrorism, and when they do, they mention something about Wahabbi redaction of Koranic text, which as far as I can tell is an absurdly inaccurate conclusion.

Well said.
Everything this report is saying is found in the Koran and Hadith's. The Wahhabbi's are just executing Islam per Allah and Muhammad.
No thinking person can read this Islamic scripture any other way than does the Wahhabi.
Said another way all Muslims have access to the "same scriptures" as the Wahhabbi's if they choose to read the Koran or Hadith's.
I'd venture few read, but listen to the clerics who guide them and these clerics know what's in the Islamic scripture and will turn on a dime to proclaim using it and executing it when the time is right.
I say this report is deliberately playing dumb that all Muslims have the same sordid literature that the report implies is just Wahhabi concocted and acted on.

Has anyone sent a copy of the report to the Fox tv executives who caved into the demands of CAIR ?
Heck, just to inform CAIR that they can't fool all the people all the time, send them a report too.
This report should be publicly distributed
in front of the Saudi embassy. If they are
distributing their hate filled vitriol with
impunity, why cannot we start a grass roots
movement to get the word out there. This report
cannot be (easily) dismissed as "anti-Muslim"
(though groups like CAIR are experts at pulling
the wool over people's eyes).
Like the 9/11 Report, this report needs to be given wide distribution.

We also have a complete section on CAIR and a brief prepared on them, that will be in the Letters section tomorrow, to also send out.

Islam in essence constitutes conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit genocide. In order to carry out this agenda it must rely on instilling hatred in its followers. The so-called "Glorious QUr'an" is full of passages inciting its followers to hate, kill, declare war and export this mentality of venom. So we find mosques in the US mongering hatred against the American people, their nation and institutions, and government. Surprise, surprise.
Hate is Islam's secret weapon which its clerics keep in storage until an appropriate moment, as may have happened in Los Angeles in 1992 during the 'Rodney King' riots that killed at least 60 people and resulted in thousands of structures in Los Angeles being gutted. I think everyone in the United States remembers the astounding venom aimed at them by Muslims from all corners of the globe following the 9-11 attacks. Venom that was aimed at the American PEOPLE personally. Venom instilled in the by their mosque leaders. Venom designed to kill.
It is clear that the leaders of Islam feel it is a religious duty to commit genocide against the American people as soon as possible. No doubt many of these religious leaders are clients of the Chinese and Russian governments that have recently been proven to be declaring defacto war upon the American people. As Claire Sterling wrote in her 'Network of Terror,' Islamic terror has been politically useful to the Communist bloc countries which have repeatedly employed Islamic nations known to export religious violence. China's and Russia's governments are most likely up to their necks in this financing American mosques to foment war against the American people and government.
All this goes to show that Islam is an anachronistic weapon of mass destruction. It exists to commit what are essentially crimes against humanity. It must be outlawed in the United States ASAP!!!!!

I am reminded of a quote from the film "The Terminator" :
"Listen. And understand. That terminator is out
there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be
reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or
fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until
you are dead. "
Now replace the word "terminator" with Islam.
Makes a perfect scary fit.

These people did their homework, so let's see how Congress and the White House react to their findings. I doubt that this information will be breaking news to the most powerful people in the country, who are sworn to protect America and its people from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Before they eagerly beckon third world immigrants (with personal invitations from the venerable Senator Kennedy) to further pollute and vitiate this country, seems like they could take the time to check out their compatibility with our culture, government, and religions. That is their DUTY.
But I forgot, all cultures are equal; the Saudi version of "religion" is a fine multicultural addition to our diverse nation. I'm sure it will enrich us all in some magnificent way. If these tribal barbarians and their revised medieval ideology are considered valuable additions to our society, it's already too late for us.

Charles Martel,
I'm not a lawyer either, but given the fact that Islam and the Constitution are mutually exclusive, it would seem that it's not too great a leap for some bureau, division, etc. to find just cause in preventing any practicing Muslim from becoming a naturalized citizen, from holding public office, etc. etc.
You can't be a faithful Muslim and at the same time swear to uphold the Constitution etc.
Justamom and Susan_b, WOW!
Sococm, the "Terminator" comparison is positively poetic! And your statement about CAIR pulling the wool over people's eyes--hmmmm. Somewhere in there I see a logo or icon or something! Wolf in sheep's clothing comes to mind. . . And we did send a brief, polite, message to Fox expressing our astonishment. Someone apparently found out that the people at Fox know perfectly well just what CAIR is, but caved anyway. That's beyond sad.

Yes, I thought the Terminator quote was particularly appropriate given the relentless singlemindedness
of the enemy. Their "religion" so fits the
destructive programming of a killing cyborg.
A Clark Kent/Superman image (the one with
the shirt being dramatically pulled open
to reveal the "S" logo on the Superman suit)
with a sheep pulling open its pelt to reveal
a wolf with CAIR branded into its fur
sounds like what you were talking about.
A weekend project for those adept with Photoshop
Coming back to the report, I think it needs
to be distributed on college campuses. I
fear that the youth of today are completely
blind in every sense of the word wrapped up
in their IPoded MTV worlds.

Islam fuses faith in God, politics, and the military into one very dangerous thing. That’s why its inherent virulence must be squelched from time to time because of its blatant virulence. Look at history. Here we go again. But this time it’s totally global, including inside the US.
It uses the freedoms of democracy to destroy democracy from the inside out.

They are demonic. They are not of this world. Like they said..they worship death. They are victims of Satan trying to diminish the Human race. After they kill all "infidels" they'll just kill each other. They are just Satan's puppets and Satan is holding the strings laughing. It really is sad. It is maddening.
The puppets that flew those planes into those buildings on 9-11 are still burning in the flames they threw their vessels into. They are being tormented in their own flames right now. Their fire will never be quenched and their worm will never die.
The puppets that have used their hands to hurt or kill someone, every time they close their eyes, the person that they hurt will haunt them.

The only way we can shut down some of thesse groups like CAIR in the US is to bankrupt them
with lawsuits. But only if someone with money like
Bill Gates can bankroll a legal team to steadily
build cases aginst them and take them to court repeatedly.
Just as they use such tactics to silence their
less funded critics, we have to garner the support
of people with deep pockets. Unfortunately
most of the liberal "intelligentsia" will perceive
this as an "attack" on a "peaceful and docile"
religion. Has any tv network bothered to interview
the New Jersey Coptic family ? With Rather
discredited and NBC considering Katie Couric for
an anchor position, tv news is becoming a joke.
Perhaps we need to send out a galactic rescue
signal. Maybe somebody out there can help us ?

I am glad that people here can differentiate between Wahhabis and orthodox Muslims. When reading colonial history it can be seen how Britain and Italy interfered in the type of Islam that had been practiced up to their occupation. They made shari'a rigid and inflexible. Wahhabis are a great problem to Muslims worldwide. It is the Wahhabis who are blowing up shi'as and sunnis in Pakistan. It is the Wahhabis who are bombing innocent Iraqis. Young Wahhabi-influenced men and women make life very difficult for Muslims who still practice a predominantly flexible and deeply spiritual Islam. In Saudi they have destroyed the revered graves of many early Muslims for fear that these places will become locations of 'worship'. They have poured tons of money into the building of mosques and education programs in Africa.
Ordinary Muslims are suffering from these people, as well as US brutality. But until the US has control of the world's oil, ordinary Muslims are going to continue to be conveniently demonised.
DEMOCRACY BETRAYED
The horror of Depleted Uranium is not limited to Iraq – it may well be at our doorsteps. The information which some governments are concealing is presented here.
By James Denver
'I’m horrified. The people out there – the Iraqis, the media and the troops – risk the most appalling ill health. And the radiation from depleted uranium can travel literally anywhere. It’s going to destroy the lives of thousands of children, all over the world. We all know how far radiation can travel. Radiation from Chernobyl reached Wales and in Britain you sometimes get red dust from the Sahara on your car.’
The speaker is not some alarmist doom-sayer. He is Dr Chris Busby, the British radiation expert, Fellow of the University of Liverpool in the Faculty of Medicine and UK representative on the European Committee on Radiation Risk, talking about the best kept secret of this war: the fact that, by illegally using hundreds of tons of depleted uranium (DU) against Iraq, Britain and America have gravely endangered not only the Iraqis but the whole world. For these weapons have released deadly, carcinogenic and mutagenic, radioactive particles in such abundance that – whipped up by sandstorms and carried on trade winds – there is no corner of the globe they cannot penetrate – including Britain. For the wind has no boundaries and time is on their side: the radioactivity persists for over 4,500,000,000 years and can cause cancer, leukaemia, brain damage, kidney failure, and extreme birth defects – killing millions of every age for centuries to come. A crime against humanity which may, in the eyes of historians, rank with the worst atrocities of all time.
These weapons have released deadly, carcinogenic and mutagenic, radioactive particles in such abundance that there is no corner of the globe they cannot penetrate – including Britain.
Yet, officially, no crime has been committed. For this story is a dirty story in which the facts have been concealed from those who needed them most. It is also a story we need to know if the people of Iraq are to get the medical care they desperately need, and if our troops, returning from Iraq, are not to suffer as terribly as the veterans of other conflicts in which depleted uranium was used.
‘Depleted’ uranium is in many ways a misnomer. For ‘depleted’ sounds weak. The only weak thing about depleted uranium is its price. It is dirt cheap, toxic, waste from nuclear power plants and bomb production. However, uranium is one of earth’s heaviest elements and DU packs a Tyson’s punch, smashing through tanks, buildings and bunkers with equal ease, spontaneously catching fire as it does so, and burning people alive. ‘Crispy critters’ is what US servicemen call those unfortunate enough to be close. And, when John Pilger encountered children killed at a greater distance he wrote: ‘The children’s skin had folded back, like parchment, revealing veins and burnt flesh that seeped blood, while the eyes, intact, stared straight ahead. I vomited.’ (Daily Mirror)
The millions of radioactive uranium oxide particles released when it burns can kill just as surely, but far more terribly. They can even be so tiny they pass through a gas mask, making protection against them impossible. Yet, small is not beautiful. For these invisible killers indiscriminately attack men, women, children and even babies in the womb – and do the gravest harm of all to children and unborn babies.
Doctors in Iraq have estimated that birth defects have increased by 2-6 times, and 3-12 times as many children have developed cancer and leukaemia since 1991. Moreover, a report published in The Lancet in 1998 said that as many as 500 children a day are dying from these sequels to war and sanctions and that the death rate for Iraqi children under 5 years of age increased from 23 per 1000 in 1989 to 166 per thousand in 1993. Overall, cases of lymphoblastic leukemia more than quadrupled with other cancers also increasing ‘at an alarming rate’. In men, lung, bladder, bronchus, skin, and stomach cancers showed the highest increase. In women, the highest increases were in breast and bladder cancer, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.1
On hearing that DU had been used in the Gulf in 1991, the UK Atomic Energy Authority sent the Ministry of Defence a special report on the potential damage to health and the environment. It said that it could cause half a million additional cancer deaths in Iraq over 10 years. In that war the authorities only admitted to using 320 tons of DU – although the Dutch charity LAKA estimates the true figure is closer to 800 tons. Many times that may have been spread across Iraq by this year’s war. The devastating damage all this DU will do to the health and fertility of the people of Iraq now, and for generations to come, is beyond imagining.
The radioactivity persists for over 4,500,000,000 years killing millions of every age for centuries to come. This is a crime against humanity which may rank with the worst atrocities of all time.
We must also count the numberless thousands of miscarried babies. Nobody knows how many Iraqis have died in the womb since DU contaminated their world. But it is suggested that troops who were only exposed to DU for the brief period of the war were still excreting uranium in their semen 8 years later and some had 100 times the so called ‘safe limit’ of uranium in their urine. The lack of government interest in the plight of veterans of the 1991 war is reflected in a lack of academic research on the impact of DU but informal research has found a high incidence of birth defects in their children and that the wives of men who served in Iraq have three times more miscarriages than the wives of servicemen who did not go there.
Since DU darkened the land Iraq has seen birth defects which would break a heart of stone: babies with terribly foreshortened limbs, with their intestines outside their bodies, with huge bulging tumours where their eyes should be, or with a single eye – like Cyclops, or without eyes, or without limbs, and even without heads. Significantly, some of the defects are almost unknown outside textbooks showing the babies born near A-bomb test sites in the Pacific. Doctors report that many women no longer say ‘Is it a girl or a boy?’ but simply, ‘Is it normal, doctor?’ Moreover this terrible legacy will not end. The genes of their parents may have been damaged for ever, and the damaging DU dust is ever-present.
What the governments of America and Britain have done to the people of Iraq they have also done to their own soldiers, in both wars. And they have done it knowingly. For the battlefields have been thick with DU and soldiers have had to enter areas heavily contaminated by bombing. Moreover, their bodies have not only been assaulted by DU but also by a vaccination regime which violated normal protocols, experimental vaccines, nerve agent pills, and organophosphate pesticides in their tents. Yet, though the hazards of DU were known, British and American troops were not warned of its dangers. Nor were they given thorough medical checks on their return – even though identifying it quickly might have made it possible to remove some of it from their body. Then, when a growing number became seriously ill, and should have been sent to top experts in radiation damage and neurotoxins, many were sent to a psychiatrist.
Over 200,000 US troops who returned from the 1991 war are now invalided out with ailments officially attributed to service in Iraq – that’s 1 in 3. In contrast, the British government’s failure to fully assess the health of returning troops, or to monitor their health, means no one even knows how many have died or become gravely ill since their return. However, Gulf veterans’ associations say that, of 40,000 or so fighting fit men and women who saw active service, at least 572 have died prematurely since coming home and 5000 may be ill. An alarming number are thought to have taken their own lives, unable to bear the torment of the innumerable ailments which have combined to take away their career, their sexuality, their ability to have normal children, and even their ability to breathe or walk normally. As one veteran puts it, they are ‘on DU death row, waiting to die’.
Whatever other factors there may be, some of their illnesses are strikingly similar to those of Iraqis exposed to DU dust. For example, soldiers have also fathered children without eyes. And, in a group of eight servicemen whose babies lack eyes seven are known to have been directly exposed to DU dust. They too have fathered children with stunted arms, and rare abnormalities classically associated with radiation damage. They too seem prone to cancer and leukaemia. Tellingly, so are EU soldiers who served as peacekeepers in the Balkans, where DU was also used. Indeed their leukaemia rate has been so high that several EU governments have protested at the use of DU.
Despite all that evidence of the harm done by DU, governments on both sides of the Atlantic have repeatedly claimed that as it emits only ‘low level’ radiation DU is harmless. Award winning scientist, Dr Rosalie Bertell who has led UN medical commissions, has studied ‘low level’ radiation for 30 years.2 She has found that uranium oxide particles have more than enough power to harm cells, and describes their pulses of radiation as hitting surrounding cells ‘like flashes of lightning’ again and again in a single second.2 Like many scientists worldwide who have studied this type of radiation, she has found that such ‘lightning strikes’ can damage DNA and cause cell mutations which lead to cancer. Moreover, these particles can be taken up by body fluids and travel through the body, damaging more than one organ. To compound all that Dr Bertell has found that this particular type of radiation can cause the body’s communication systems to break down, leading to malfunctions in many vital organs of the body and to many medical problems. A striking fact, since many veterans of the first Gulf war suffer from innumerable, seemingly unrelated, ailments.
In addition, recent research by Eric Wright, Professor of Experimental Haematology at Dundee University, and others, have shown two ways in which such radiation can do far more damage than has been thought. The first is that a cell which seems unharmed by radiation can produce cells with diverse mutations several cell generations later. (And mutations are at the root of cancer and birth defects.) This ‘radiation induced genomic instability’ is compounded by ‘the bystander effect’ by which cells mutate in unison with others which have been damaged by radiation – rather as birds swoop and turn in unison. Put together, these two mechanisms can greatly increase the damage done by a single source of radiation, such as a DU particle. Moreover, it is now clear that there are marked genetic differences in the way individuals respond to radiation – with some being far more likely to develop cancer than others. So the fact that some veterans of the first Gulf war seem relatively unharmed by their exposure to DU in no way proves that DU did not damage others.
That the evidence from Iraq and from our troops, and the research findings of such experts, have been ignored may be no accident. A US report, leaked in late 1995, allegedly says, ‘The potential for health effects from DU exposure is real; however it must be viewed in perspective... the financial implications of long-term disability payments and healthcare costs would be excessive.’3
Clearly, with hundreds of thousands gravely ill in Iraq and at least a quarter of a million UK and US troops seriously ill, huge disability claims might be made not only against the governments of Britain and America if the harm done by DU were acknowledged. There might also be huge claims against companies making DU weapons and some of their directors are said to be extremely close to the White House. How close they are to Downing Street is a matter for speculation, but arms sales makes a considerable contribution to British trade. So the massive whitewashing of DU over the past 12 years, and the way that governments have failed to test returning troops, seemed to disbelieve them, and washed their hands of them, may be purely to save money.
The possibility that financial considerations have led the governments of Britain and America to cynically avoid taking responsibility for the harm they have done not only to the people of Iraq but to their own troops may seem outlandish. Yet DU weapons weren’t used by the other side and no other explanation fits the evidence. For, in the days before Britain and America first used DU in war its hazards were no secret.4 One American study in 1990 said DU was ‘linked to cancer when exposures are internal, [and to] chemical toxicity – causing kidney damage’. While another openly warned that exposure to these particles under battlefield conditions could lead to cancers of the lung and bone, kidney damage, non-malignant lung disease, neuro-cognitive disorders, chromosomal damage and birth defects.5
A culture of denial
In 1996 and 1997 UN Human Rights Tribunals condemned DU weapons for illegally breaking the Geneva Convention and classed them as ‘weapons of mass destruction’ ‘incompatible with international humanitarian and human rights law’. Since then, following leukaemia in European peacekeeping troops in the Balkans and Afghanistan (where DU was also used), the EU has twice called for DU weapons to be banned.
Yet, far from banning DU, America and Britain stepped up their denials of the harm from this radioactive dust as more and more troops from the first Gulf war and from action and peacekeeping in the Balkan and Afghanistan have become seriously ill. This is no coincidence. In 1997, while citing experiments, by others, in which 84 percent of dogs exposed to inhaled uranium died of cancer of the lungs, Dr Asaf Durakovic, then Professor of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at Georgetown University in Washington was quoted as saying, ‘The [US government’s] Veteran Administration asked me to lie about the risks of incorporating depleted uranium in the human body.’ He concluded, ‘uranium… does cause cancer, uranium does cause mutation, and uranium does kill. If we continue with the irresponsible contamination of the biosphere, and denial of the fact that human life is endangered by the deadly isotope uranium, then we are doing disservice to ourselves, disservice to the truth, disservice to God and to all generations who follow.’ Not what the authorities wanted to hear and his research was suddenly blocked.
During 12 years of ever-growing British whitewash the authorities have abolished military hospitals, where there could have been specialized research on the effects of DU and where expertise in treating DU victims could have built up. And, not content with the insult of suggesting the gravely disabling symptoms of Gulf veterans are imaginary they have refused full pensions to many. For, despite all the evidence to the contrary, the current House of Commons briefing paper on DU hazards says ‘it is judged that any radiation effects from…possible exposures are extremely unlikely to be a contributory factor to the illnesses currently being experienced by some Gulf war veterans.’ Note how over a quarter of a million sick and dying US and UK vets are called ‘some’.
The way ahead
Britain and America not only used DU in this year’s Iraq war, they dramatically increased its use – from a minimum of 320 tons in the previous war to at minimum of 1500 tons in this one. And this time the use of DU wasn’t limited to anti-tank weapons – as it had largely been in the previous Gulf war – but was extended to the guided missiles, large bunker busters and big 2000 pound bombs used in Iraq’s cities. This means that Iraq’s cities have been blanketed in lethal particles – any one of which can cause cancer or deform a child. In addition, the use of DU in huge bombs which throw the deadly particles higher and wider in huge plumes of smoke means that billions of deadly particles have been carried high into the air – again and again and again as the bombs rained down – ready to be swept worldwide by the winds.
The Royal Society has suggested the solution is massive decontamination in Iraq. That could only scratch the surface. For decontamination is hugely expensive and, though it may reduce the risks in some of the worst areas, it cannot fully remove them. For DU is too widespread on land and water. How do you clean up every nook and cranny of a city the size of Baghdad? How can they decontaminate a whole country in which microscopic particles, which cannot be detected with a normal geiger counter, are spread from border to border? And how can they clean up all the countries downwind of Iraq – and, indeed, the world?
So there are only two things we can do to mitigate this crime against humanity. The first is to provide the best possible medical care for the people of Iraq, for our returning troops and for those who served in the last Gulf war and, through that, minimize their suffering. The second is to relegate war, and the production and sale of weapons, to the scrap heap of history – along with slavery and genocide. Then, and only then, will this crime against humanity be expunged, and the tragic deaths from this war truly bring freedom to the people of Iraq, and of the world.

Thanks whitequeen for this information,
DOD still hold the position that DU is not causing these illnesses, is it a cover-up, I remember DU was discussed on PBS - Frontline;
can still listen to the episode:

The Sun, that ball of radioactive fire that all life on earth depends on is a gigantic nuclear reactor. Scientists predict that in about 4-5 billions years from now, it will have consumed all it's fuel and will burn out and the earth and everything on it will die. I'm surprised liberals don't try to convice the world that this is America's fault. They should realize how vain they are. Instead of worrying about things they can't control and instead of going around like chicken little, squawking that the sky is falling! the sky is falling! they should concern themselves with spiritual matters. They try to change the world through fearmongering about the environment and lying about everything imaginable and what a joke, the only one's listening are other foolish libs.

DU "controversy", like Agent Orange is a fraud(and industry) propagated by the so-called "anti-war" groups and adopted by fellow-travelers.. The MSM has been complicite in it because they share core political beliefs(acquired through their necessary enrollment in the overwhelmingly leftist dominated "liberal arts" colleges) with the Marxist front-groups and their off-shoots, such as radical environmentalists.
They have exploited people who have had the misfortune of being afflicted with health problems that randomly afflict all segments of the population at the same rate. Of course their "findings" disagree.
These are the same groups who propagated the lie about official American genocidal/war crime policies in Vietnam and also perpetrated the myth of the Vietnam veteran being a dysfunctional borderline psychotic ticking time-bomb of society.
It's pretty much all done to justify(hide) their cowardly, traitorous behavior during the war-- they have a desperate need to show that they were right in their opposition. This does NOT apply to everyone who opposed the war, only these specific examples.

Kabbani's testimony on Saudi Arabia is useful. But one would hesitate to conclude that he himself is one of those "moderates" we can trust. Kabbani is a member of the same Sufi order as Sultanhussein Tabandeh, And here is how Andrew Bostom, in his essay refuting the mild, disturbing (because Ormsby is too intelligent not to know, secretly, better) apologetics of Eric Ormsby of McGill.
[I have simply cut-and-paste, and there are some phantom footnotes indicated; the full text can be obtained by googling "Andrew Bostom" and "Eric Ormsby".]
Tabandeh,"the leader of a Shi’ite Sufi order, wrote an "Islamic perspective" on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.15 According to Professor Eliz Sanasarian’s important analysis of religious minorities in the Islamic Republic, Tabandeh’s tract became "…the core ideological work upon which the Iranian government…based its non-Muslim policy."16 It is critical to understand that Tabandeh’s key views on non-Muslims, summarized below, were implemented "…almost verbatim in the Islamic Republic of Iran."17 In essence, Tabandeh simply reaffirms the sacralized inequality of non-Muslims relative to Muslims, under the Shari’a:
[below are direct quotes from Tabandeh's commentary on the need to treat Muslim and non-Muslim differently]
Thus if [a] Muslim commits adultery his punishment is 100 lashes, the shaving of his head, and one year of banishment. But if the man is not a Muslim and commits adultery with a Muslim woman his penalty is execution…Similarly if a Muslim deliberately murders another Muslim he falls under the law of retaliation and must by law be put to death by the next of kin. But if a non-Muslim who dies at the hand of a Muslim has by lifelong habit been a non-Muslim, the penalty of death is not valid. Instead the Muslim murderer must pay a fine and be punished with the lash.18
Since Islam regards non-Muslims as on a lower level of belief and conviction, if a Muslim kills a non-Muslim…then his punishment must not be the retaliatory death, since the faith and conviction he possesses is loftier than that of the man slain…Again, the penalties of a non-Muslim guilty of fornication with a Muslim woman are augmented because, in addition to the crime against morality, social duty and religion, he has committed sacrilege, in that he has disgraced a Muslim and thereby cast scorn upon the Muslims in general, and so must be executed.19
Islam and its peoples must be above the infidels, and never permit non-Muslims to acquire lordship over them. Since the marriage of a Muslim woman to an infidel husband (in accordance with the verse quoted: ‘Men are guardians form women’) means her subordination to an infidel, that fact makes the marriage void, because it does not obey the conditions laid down to make a contract valid. As the Sura ("The Woman to be Examined," LX v. 10) says: ‘Turn them not back to infidels: for they are not lawful unto infidels nor are infidels lawful unto them (i.e., in wedlock). 20
